OK, so for sale here is my pride, joy and recent obsession! I’ve been on and off on the lookout for an E30 for 5 years and never found “the one” until this car came up; as soon as I saw it I jumped on it. Apologies in advance for the long write up, but stick with it if you are interested as it’s the history and condition that make this car so special and unrepeatable!
The car has had 2 owners from new before me, with the same owner until 2004 who drove it fresh out of the factory. Both previous owners were friends and have known the car all its life. The guy I bought it off made the original owner swear he’d get first refusal when he sold it as it is so clean and well maintained. Both previous owners were in the RAF so the car has been cherished, polished, kept in garages and undercover, away from salty roads all its life and only done very low mileage. When I picked it up my friend (who knows E30s inside out and inspected it for me) left fingerprints on the boot lid and the owner actually bollocked him – AFTER money had changed hands! Testament to the fastidious way this car has been kept and maintained.
Anyway key info:
E30 316i MANUAL (all the clean ones seem to be autos!)
MOT: 23rd June 2012 (Yes, 13 Months MOT)
Tax: 30th November 2011 (just had a fresh 6 months!)
Mileage: 98000 (will go up)
The car comes with massive service history both BMW (inspection 1&2s) and specialist as well as a mountain of receipts for every time this car has been touched. I won’t go in to it all now (you’re more than welcome to read through it when you view), but it includes: 2 cam belt changes (not including the one I’ve just done), new suspension bushes (a big one on E30s), wheel bearings, diff rebuild, coolant changes, brake pipes, pads, discs and fluid etc.
Engine and gear box/ drive train:
As you would expect based on the mileage and service history the engine, box and diff are perfect. Since owning it I’ve changed the oil (Millers XSS), oil filter and air filter twice in 5000 miles. I last serviced it at the beginning of March with the above.
It’s also had:
- Plugs
- HT leads
- Dizzy Cap
- Both front end belts
- Fuel Filter
- Manifold back complete exhaust
- Fuel system treatment
- Rear Wheel Bearings
I’ve just changed the cam belt and all pulleys and tensioners too (this included a coolant change) at 97K Miles. Pics and sticker in the engine bay to confirm.
The car runs perfectly; I have stripped and cleaned the ICV and inlet system/ throttle body and rebuilt it all with new gaskets, replacing any vac hoses as required.
The drivetrain is also perfect with no whines or noises. The box is slick and smooth as it should be. I’ve changed the diff and gearbox oil 2000 miles ago too.
I average 38+mpg out of the car which is why the 316i makes such a good daily and again reflects the condition of the engine!
I’ve just fitted a new fuel tank (expensive!!!!), pipes and lines (rather than repair a pin-hole) using genuine BMW parts where possible.
Body:
The body on this car is amazing. It’s never had welding and will never need it if looked after. It’s been lashed with waxoil since day 1 and as soon as I got hold of it, I covered it again with another 5 litres, ensuring I got in all the cavities – you could park it in the sea!
The underside is PERFECT. A big claim on an E30, but there it is in writing. I’ve had the arch liners out and the fuel tank and can confirm it is spotless everywhere.
I’ve fitted an RPM motorsport sump guard to protect the vulnerable sump and have had no issues. It’s worth noting that I have not grounded out, scraped or damaged any part of the underside from running at this height.
The paint is brilliant and in no-way pink. The car is permanently kept clean and covered in autoglym etc. There are a few stone chips and tiny marks, but nothing significant or that detracts from it. It’s good enough to be a show car and really wants stuffing in a BMW museum.
Couple of other small details: I had the iS splitter professionally repainted and fitted new number plates.
Brakes:
Again, in excellent order having just had new pads 3000 miles ago. Discs are mint as are all hoses/ pipes. I’ve also fitted a new brake light switch.
Suspension and Wheels:
The only modifications to the car are the suspension and wheels.
The suspension is BC Racing BR series coilovers (height/ damping adjustable front and rear) with camber adjustable top plates. These are obviously as-new and, although low, the car rides very nicely and is never choppy or crashy. I’ve spent a lot of time setting them up to get the car looking and riding right. While it’s not a racer the handling is amazing as you would expect! When they were fitted I used new front wheel bearings.
Wheels are Axis OG2 15X8” with Toyo Proxis 195/50/15 tyres. Again brand new 3000 miles ago and still indistinguishable from brand new having been covered in poor boy’s wheel sealant from before they were even fitted to the car! There are also 15/20mm hub-centric spacers fitted front/ rear respectively.
Interior:
PERFECT. There is not so much as a mark on the seats, any wear on the switch gear or even a spec of dust behind the glass on the instrument cluster.
The car is full of factory options such as a sunroof, BMW mats, Pioneer stereo system (with remote) electric windows and mirrors. Everything works perfectly from the dash light dimmer to the flap that pops up when you open the sun roof.
The boot area is also perfect with the full and original tool kit and unused spare and jack.
It even comes with 3 original keys!
OK, thanks for sticking with it! This car really is in very good condition (I’ve thrown into the £thousands at it since buying it alone), looks amazing, drives amazingly and really ought to be kept as a show car. That said, it makes the perfect daily (why would you not buy the best if you need to rely on it every day!!? Oh yeah, and CHEAP insurance!) or would make the perfect base for an engine conversion.
Any questions, or if you want to view, drop me a line:
