Thought it might be an idea to pool resources on where would be a good place to start for people who haven't watched a lot of Touring Car racing, or just want to reminisce! BTCC folklore dictates that the final round of the 1992 season at Silverstone is the archetypal must-see race. Vauxhall's John Cleland, Toyota's Will Hoy and BMW's Tim Harvey all had a shot of winning the title, Steve Soper got shunted by Robb Gravett on the first lap and had a storming drive from the rear up through the ranking, and the end was very dramatic. Here's a snippet: Pretty cool, huh? So, DVD-wise, here's two recommendations I'd make: BTCC: The First 50 Years Disc one is a three hour history of the BTCC from 1958-2008, with plentiful interviews and loads of period footage. Disc two features four full races: Sears & Sopwith's '58 Riley shootout, the aforementioned 1992 season finale, as well as season finales from (IIRC) 1989 and 2007. Tales From The Tarmac This covers BTCC in the modern sense (i.e. with all cars running to the same regs), from 1991-2002 with a roundup of each year. Loads of amazing footage. So, what would you recommend? Any further BTCC sources? What about WTCC, DTM, Australian Touring Cars or anything else...?

My Youtube channel was mentioned in Autosport Magazine last year because it has loads of old BBC Grandstand coverage of the BTCC, mainly the late 80s Soper vs Rouse Era, plus a few other BTCC videos I've favourited. I found the vids online and rehosted them. www.youtube.com/user/academygaz

So, what would you recommend? Any further BTCC sources? My lounge every BTCC review VHS and DVD from 1988 to the present day, one day I'll get the pre DVD stuff digitised to give it a bit more shelf life. A few years ago I had a couple of weeks between jobs and the house to myself so started at the beginning and watched al of them, must have been 18yrs worth. It was interesting to follow the development of the series ;D

Thats the shizzle dbizzle! No matter how many times ive seen it, once I start watching it I have to see it through to the end. At the time we knew it was a cracking formula, looking back at it now it must go down as the formula with the most ''do you remember when?'' moments. Or is that just because I remember it all so clearly? Ive got most of the BTCC Videos and this BTCC week has inspired me to make sure the collection is complete. Then I will start on DVD's ;D

That vid is excellent, the racing was soooo close!! Had to laugh at Cleland getting annoyed at Sopher when he started the argy bargy!! Great racing if only the manufacturers went into todays BTCC with that kind of commitment

That vid is excellent, the racing was soooo close!! Had to laugh at Cleland getting annoyed at Sopher when he started the argy bargy!! Great racing if only the manufacturers went into todays BTCC with that kind of commitment You not been watching this years championship?? It's like bumper cars! The guy who used to run (can't remember his name) the btcc back in the hay day, like in dbizzle's vid, retired in the mid 90's which was when it all went a bit down hill, well he's now back incharge and is trying to get it back to the same standard as before ;D If you watch a current race, look out for the Toyota avantis NGTC (next gen touring car), I think there's only 1 on the grid and it's normally towards the back. This season 2011 is a shake down for the new car specs, next season will be a mixed grid and 2013 will be all NGTC, they're ment to be a lot cheaper to build so to encourage new manufacture run teams and privateers with the plan to get back to the ethos of the old btcc, they're ment to be using the 92 season as their inspiration ;D So start watching, the more viewers it gets now, the more teams we'll get in the future and the better racing that comes with it Oh, and this years season is turning out to be really rather good already! Top vid man, I remember watching that on telly at the time, and it's still heart in mouth stuff.

BTCC is big budget, sponsored banger racing ;D
That clip is awesome, some real good close racing, with the drivers giving it their all! Cant imagine that a car as badly damaged as Sopers BMW would be allowed to carry on the race nowdays.
Will have to dig out the BTCC annuals now..........
