On my way back from Derbyshire today, coming down the good old A38,I detoured to Curborough on the off-chance that something might be on and it was.The Avenger and Sunbeam Owners Club were having a little track day and a few were gathered to give their steeds a damn good thrashing. Here's a few snaps off me mu ;D This one was saved from the scrappers but was basically sound structurally just needing an engine and some fettling. Tiger, tiger, burning bright etc. Hmmm! that's interesting. You don't often see intercoolers behind the grilles on these. Ah! that'll be why.A Vauxhall turbo motor, nice. Permission to take off.

You want dodgy, shakey, out of focus action shots? You got 'em. They were using the track in a way I'd never seen before which was interesting. They started off from a gate just after the normal finish line, raced down to where the start is normally, around the loop dowm there, then back around the circuit proper twice in either direction, some going clockwise, others anti and some one lap one way and the other lap opposite,it was all great fun to watch and made for a much longer sprint, excellent idea. They then exited via the gate in the bottom paddock. Hope you liked and if you want to see all the pics,no matter how dodgy, they be here. s7.photobucket.com/albums/y257/tremor63/Avenger%20and%20Sunbeam%20Owners%20Club%20sprint%202011/?start=all

That is frying my mind! Sunbeam doors and nose onto an Avenger shell? Or did they do 2dr Avenger estates? Is the nose bolt-on between an Avenger and Sunbeam? Its displaying a lot of win, however it was achieved!

I have no idea what this was but it was nice. Toyota Starlet Glanza turbo. There are some very nice motors in that selection, big fan of your action shots too ;D

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Is the nose bolt-on between an Avenger and Sunbeam? Yep. Was quite common in rallying back in the 80's to see Avenger GRP front wings/bonnets grafted onto Sunbeam shells. Chrysler simply whopped about 6" out of the existing Avenger floorpan when they developed the Sunbeam, all the running-gear is identical. Using the same engineering in reverse, that's how Talbot Competition Department built the awesome 2.2-litre Lotus-powered Avenger service barges they built in 1979.

That pick up truck is a work of art, spectacular!!! Must have been a hell of a project, he's got the 2-dr doors on there so must have had to shift the B-pillars back and everything!

It's the same deal incidentally with Hunters and fastback Sunbeam Rapiers - all the same under the skin so front ends can be swapped over. Is the nose bolt-on between an Avenger and Sunbeam? Yep. My first car was the 'family' Avenger 1600 Super. Dad bought it new in '76, mother used it when the old giffer upgraded to an Opel Rekord, I got the keys after I passed my test in '83, then my sister killed it after losing an argument with the side of one of the Malvern Hills. To be fair, not her fault. Thanks for the memories, A68

Thanks for the nice comments and brilliant insight into Avenger/Sunbeam front ends, very cool, now I want a Sunbeam estate. ;D I also thought it was interesting that the track day only cost the participants £30 each considering they had a full day and were relatively few, only the cars you see above.I would love to have another spin around there myself one day.
