They're playing their cards quite close to their chest, aren't they? Might be useful to know where it is. And when.

I think it seems like a good idea depending on cost. I've got a spare 180-odd horse F7R in the garage keep looking at Volvo 340s to sling it in. However it depends on the cost of the control tyres.

I have been following this on FB, seems like a great idea and there appears to be a focus on keeping the costs low.
They have mentioned that there is big discounts to be had on the control tyres but no concrete details yet though.
There is mention that engines and axles are unlimited but it would be interesting to see how they will separate the classes.
Watching with interest!
Rysz.

This year looks to be small scale, but it should work out well in the long run! Lots of interest so far! ;D

I think the max tyre width rule is a stroke of genius tbh. Those tyres are cheap enough without a discount especially as you'll probably only need one pair per event (if its a track). Assuming I get employment I'm really tempted to have a crack!

Going to be a 'retro' drift championship. Exact rules, dates, locations TBD, but off the top of my head:
Cars: - Pre-1990 design of car. So a 1991 Sierra is ok. An S12 is ok. S13s and R32s: not. They're looking for stuff that you don't really see in BDC etc. - 6-point bolt in cage with 1 door bar (2 is fibreglass doors/single skin doors) - Bucket and 4-point harness required. - Decent helmet required - Fire extinguisher in reach of driver while belted in - Rear tyres remoulds from Tyres of Malvern. Fronts free. Max width of 205mm. (Cost £25-28 each before anticipated discount.)
BHP and other stuff free.

Sounds really good, I'll keep an eye on it. I'd love to take part but my skills are nowhere near good enough.

So they would be eligible, wouldn't they? I love the idea, be great to see common-ish drift cars like the ae86 and mk2 Escort locking horns with some more obscure old school metal! A big fan of the max tyre width rule too - no point having 600hp if you can't put it to the ground

Pretty fair I think, especially if anything else is to have a chance. Makes me wonder if I should chuck escRot together roughly for some slideyslidey fun...

Whilst it is true that S13s and R32s are considered normal drift cars, you have to admit that they are now getting extremely long in the tooth, so I think they should be permitted as retro. The oldest S13s are now pushing 25 years old, which is without doubt an old car.
The idea of control re-tread tyres to keep the cost down is awesome. I actually wish that someone ran a circuit racing series with those rules! Imagine having a 14" retread as a control tyre in a racing category. Tyres would be about $200 per set maximum, so a lot more people could afford to race. Half the trouble with circuit racing is paying $1500 for a set of tyres.

I agree, there is no denying that they are old cars, but the whole idea of this series is to get some lesser seen metal out on the track getting sideways.
The control tyre idea is a stroke of genius, as you say, the cost of race rubber is horrific and a fairly prohibitive.

Its more like 15 per tyre from what I've seen on drift works (15s and smaller)
The problem with r32s and s13s is that even though they are old they are still a staple of the drift seen. I think they are trying to encourage more off the wall choices.
