In the last few months we´ve noticed that there has been an increasing number of non car stuff in the "Parts for sale" section. To help clarify what belongs in there and what not, here is a list of stuff that we like to see in there Car parts or spares(if you´re breaking a car it belongs in here too) ToolsCar accessories, stickers, ICE, go faster goodies Anything car related Books, magazines, car T-shirts, models, garage clearouts etc In our attempt to declutter the "For sale" section and improve the site generally the following stuff will be deleted in the future. Here´s a list of stuff that we´re not too keen on .... Pushbikes, motorbikes, gokarts, sofas, watches, home stereos, sheds, etc basically if it´s not car related, even if it´s "Retro" it´ll be deleted, that goes for adverts without a price too Everyone can help to keep this place as good as it is so play the game chaps so put the car stuff up here and the rest on eBay ;D

OB, begging you allow motorcycles and parts and paraphernalia. Thank you for the time you give and efforts you make to have a nice For Sale section! Norm

Its a good move. Useless clutter in there is just annoying imo.
Maybe a seperate section for non car related retro-only stuff?

Sorry Norm, it´s a car forum so no bikes in the future After 2 years I'm STILL learning how this place works. I always took Retro Rides (the words) to be widely universal in meaning, encompassing all road ridden vehicles. Including buses!

Agree with you 100% there. Maybe it should be renamed Retro Cars.org ? I'm not a biker or bus driver, but would think a forum named Retro Rides would encompass all... Well... Retro Rides!

Sorry Norm, it´s a car forum so no bikes in the future After 2 years I'm STILL learning how this place works. I always took Retro Rides (the words) to be widely universal in meaning, encompassing all road ridden vehicles. Including buses! I´ve not seen a bus on the forum yet, and i´m more than happy to keep my possible future bus restauration to myself if that doesn´t fit in To quote Hotwire... What is Retro Rides all about? Now there is a question! The forum started as a place to discuss different marques of classic and modified classic cars. Defining what cars we actually discuss is a little tricky, there some general threads that ties them all together. The cars are generally a peoples car of some sort, rather than out of reach sports cars, or they are an under appreciated classic. The cars tend to be modified either aesthetically, mechanically or both. They tend to be over 20 years old. More often than not they would be what most people consider budget classics. However, they may not conform to any of these things, this is what makes what we do so interesting. So if you've got a 1973 Vauxhall Viva dropped over BBS alloys, or a 1906 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, we'll be as interested to hear about your experiences and what its like to own your car, because above everything else Retro Rides is about a love of cars. You´re forgetting we´re only talking about the for "sale section" here, bikes are still welcome in the "Readers other modifications" so don´t worry chaps! ;D

I don't really sell but i don't see the harm in selling other stuff if it helps get money for someone,as some people have hit hard times and we all do like diffrent things and the person selling may have somethink that someone been looking for and maybe for a long time.Have a diffrent area were you sell none retro bits. But then who am i to say.Think its sad

I´ve not seen a bus on the forum yet, and i´m more than happy to keep my possible future bus restauration to myself if that doesn´t fit in I'm not proposing restrictions, OB. I'm asking for the opposite of restrictions as to the motorcycles, is all. The forum has had hundreds of threads and pics of buses. As well as motorcycles. If consistency is the guide, and For Sale is to be restricted to cars only, and no motorcycles, then are there to be no adverts for buses, lorries, commercials either? Straight-up question, not a slap or attempt to quarrel. Asking, mate, just asking. Hasn't a thing to do with you personally, to ask about the policy. I'd like to see ads allowed for all road vehicles, their parts, and their paraphernalia. My last post on this matter, as I don't mean to irritate, and seems I am.

Buses have been posted in ReadersRides and since "other modifications" often has bikes I feel bikes should be permitted to be sold here, else your allowing us to view and admire bikes but not help people buy parts and trade. Perhaps this site could be renamed RetroCars to make it more clear?

garage clearouts - this is where the cr3p creeps in - just because you keep it in the garage doesnt make it retro car related
maybe a "other modifications' For Sale section (in the other mods section) might be useful, and help declutter the parts section.
and lastly, well done Oldbus on tackling this problem head-on. Moderation needs a firm, but cool, hand

I think it's pretty clear that RR is a car forum, but this news is a bit of a disappointment given how much interest there is in old motorbikes on here. There aren't that many bikes advertised on RR in the scheme of things, and there are more bikers whose opinions I respect on here than on the bike forums I've visited!

I am watching many of the bike threads on here, and money permitting I watch the "for sale" threads for bikes. A car just would not suit my daily life, now if this place becomes a view only in regard to bikes, then seriously it is relative to shooting yourself in the foot, in regard to building a community.

I don't really sell but I don't see the harm in selling other stuff if it helps get money for someone,as some people have hit hard times think I fit that catagory... was gonna list a load of clearout stuff tommorow... its all in the garage/shed too but some of it isnt car related...(i.e model boat and radios) only reason its annoying is I refuse to use ebay now, which is what was keeping me alive (only income), but ebay seems to shaft me at every turn so I turned to forums... retrorides being the most interested in my stuff as it turned out...

I'd like to say i agree with OB, this is after all a Retro Cars forum despite how the name could be missunderstood. People falling on hard times is never a goos thing, BUT there are 1000's of other sites to sell your non car related wares on. Motor bikes, i'm not a fan so you could say i'm biased, but it is as said predominantly a CAR forum. As long as it's retro and car related i'm happy and should keep the FS section less clutered. Keep up the great work OB

I'm not gonna argue anyway, its OB's call and he's a good guy so don't wanna make his job harder

As said before, I think an 'all your other, non car related stuff for sale' section would be a good idea. If nothing else, it will make the car related section easier to moderate. I'd also be much happier selling within the community if I can as well since I'm sure being like minded about cars is likely to cross over into other areas of life as well.

I think we need to stop fighting the mods, they are there to try and help this place run smoother.
Yes there could be a non car related section, but where would that stop, what would be acceptible to put in there? Once we have a non car section are the bikers going to complain we need a bike section so they don't feel left out?
More sections = dilation of contents.
I say if it ain't broken don't try to fix it.
