Hello!
This is a long post, so put the kettle on now.
Ready?
Well, I was born in 1990. And fast forward a few years of my life, and I'm droning on about myself. Last weekend I attended the Gold Cup at Oulton Park, it was my first time at the circuit, and I expect I'll be going back! But it wasn't quite as simple, for me at least. It was only my second motorsport event this year. Partly due to being busy with University projects, and a lack of vision, with what seemed to be aimless image making. Anyway, with plenty of solitary bike rides and too many Rush albums than I'm willing to admit, I decided it was time to amalgamate my ideas and previous practice into a more substantial story and share my experience of a historic racing event. I love the atmosphere at these events, it's very friendly, but there remains a real competition at heart. Combined with such an eclectic mix of cars, I can never tire of the paddock, just the direction of photography, sometimes! I do feel that historic meetings demand a more thoughtful and delicate approach, compared to say, the BTCC, and it is this informed strategy which I find suits me more. There is quite a surreal feel to the event too, with immaculately presented cars and drivers against a contemporary backdrop, it feels almost dreamlike, contrary to the energy on track. So, with that dull ramble out of the way, it's time to brew the tea!
I've uploaded a very generous edit of my images, seeing as it's a car forum and I realise most people like to see as much as they can! Nevertheless, I've tried to maintain some narrative, even if it's a little long. I am going to edit the images down still and make them into a photobook. I'm yet to line up anymore events this year, although the Goodwood Revival looks fantastic! Working with one team or series is the next step I believe, to create a more refined and intimate documentary project.
Finally, here's my take on the 2010 Oulton Park Gold Cup. And a prompt to get that tea, possibly a biscuit, and to slowly scroll through!
You can see more of my work on my blog:

And a little more on my website, which is about as fast as a tectonic plate.

I hope you enjoyed the photographs, and didn't find the writing too tedious, but chain drinking camomile tea is a dangerous game! If you snooze, you lose!
