Glad you're back on it james - was talking to dez the other day about how it was a shame you'd packed it in - I was dead happy with my set, and the blokes at the tyre place were all really impressed how straight they were. One of them leaked, but after much investigation it turned out to be where they had put a hole in it when sandblasting, all the banding welds were spot on.

Can you move the centres whilst you're banding them? I want a set of 17" steels i've got banding to 10J for my car but the offsets need to be mm perfect to get them to clear.

i think i can answer this for james, from what hes said before.
its unfinished. send him a wheel, steve cuts it, puts in the band, welds it, and sends it back, so if the wheel was painted when you send it, expect it to have burnt paint on it when you get it back , if the wheel was rusty when sent itll still be rusty when you get it back.
tbh, for £40-50 a wheel, i wouldnt expect them to be blasted, the weld dressed, or anything else. its like i was saying to cobblers the other day, I'm perfectly capable of manufacturing banded steels myself, i have a lathe and a big welder so could do them in house, but at the price james offers the service for I'm better off paying him to get them done whilst i work on someone elses car to earn the cash to pay him, as if i was using my time to do them, they would cost me more, if that makes sense? realistically youre paying for 2-3 hours labour per wheel at the going rate, and i know i couldnt make one that quickly as I'm not tooled up for only banding wheels, the equipment i have needs to be adaptable.
tbh if i was investing in getting a set made, id get the base wheels thoroughly checked out first, spun up on a wheel balancer etc. to make sure they're round, and any signs of corrosion or damage and i wouldnt use them, unless they're something exceptionally rare. i wont be blasting mine first as they're reasonably clean, and i want the band section blasted too at act as a key for the paint and sealer, but if they were at all scabby, id get them blasted first.
its all common sense really if you think about it. doing a set of banded steels isnt much different to refurbing and repainting a set of normal steels, so the same techniques apply.

I think I can answer this for james, from what hes said before. **Insert a spot on explanation of what JamesP & Steve do with the wheels, and why they are such good value** I can back-up everything that Dez has said having had some wheels banded by James in the past. Look at the other 'well known' source for getting banded steels and James' pricing is amazingly cheap. In some cases half the price. What you get though is even better quality! Seriously, I have seen the quality of the 'other' company and it's OK. Not great, not poor...just 'OK'! The banding of James' though is fantastic. The weld is superb and so neat. The wheels I had done didn't need any dressing on the outside at all...the join is so neat. This can't be said for the 'others'. Price is amazing but so is the quality. There is no option and no other choice as far as I am concerned....and I am really glad to see that James and Steve are able to offer their services again. My heart sank a bit when I saw they were no longer doing them even though I have nothing in the pipeline that needs banding! He's also a damn nice guy to deal with. Nice one James, if I need any wheels banding in the near future I'll be heading straight to you without hesitation.

Oh....and Hardcore has coined a brilliant name for your wheels - JPS's (James P Specials) I think it's very apt.

I suppose it'd be easier to move the centres myself as I can get them on the back and have them sitting bang on. I'll get the back back on the road and get in touch.

Oh....and Hardcore has coined a brilliant name for your wheels - JPS's (James P Specials) I think it's very apt. ;D ;D ;D I was pleased with my work Now someone buy one of these: & put a set of James' wheels on it, for the ultimate JPS on JPS wiiiiiiiin! ;D Seriously tho, I've seen James' wheels & they're as good as the come and have bought stuff (not wheels ) from him & would give my 100% recommendation. As soon as the wife's car is MoT'd and lowered (so I measure stuff up) my name WILL be on the list glad ur back in business bud
