When you look at the metal pin the tiny chain terminates on, I think when it's in second, the end of that pin should be in the .. middle of the hole. I assume you've found the maintenance nipple wotsit and drowned it in oil? Is the spring nice and springy?

I'd take a pic and draw arrows all over it if my bike wasn't borked and not-here.

They're a notorious to adjust, and I've set mine so it won't go into first anyway - because if it can go into first then it leaps off into neutral at random when in third. Which I didn't think was possible. So I'm probably doing it all wrong...

I got a bunch of Sturmey Archer cables from Halfords last year. They are universal. With the circular end for the twist grip and the thin rod end for the trigger.
I'm thinking of selling those cables.
Maybe your local Halfords will have them. I had to search for ages for them.

Ive had trouble with the pawls and there springs. The pawls rust up and stick. The springs that make them engage in the hub shell arent very strong and can break. So its good to strip and lube the pawls. Bit fiddly to get the springs back in though.

A couple of inches wasn't enough. Chopped the seat post down as much as possible and now it looks a lot better.
