I thought it was time I should give a full write up on my car. Bit of a story behind this one. My friend bought it with 58K miles on it in 2007 at the same time when I bought a Fiesta RS Turbo (which was a cool car). As the years went by the Mazda was barely used, being a second car to an Audi S4 he had, it has covered an amazing less than 2000 miles since he purchased it. In that time it has had a new clutch and slave cylinder fitted at a cost of around £600! He also fitted an induction kit which seems to be of a good qaulity as it has mounting support brackets and it also has a powerflow exhaust system fitted. The number plate was also included. Over a few months last year I was nagging him asking if I could buy it from him as he is planning on moving out of the UK so I knew he would sell up, he finally gave in and we agreed on £1800, It had no MOT or road tax and had been sat for 12 months since the last mot! I collected it from his home and took it to my friends workshop, where I spent two days on it preping it for MOT (Needless to say it passed! :-D), cleaning it and getting to grips with the mechanical side of it. Heres some pics of the car prior to collecting it, as you can see it was looking sorry for itself. I managed to get it running after fitting some new belts that had failed. So I got it back to my Dads yard and set to work. Giving it a good rinse and T-cut, Mot prep work and general getting to grips with it So at this point I had got it on the road. We gave it a Very good clean and all was well... for a while. The car started acting up, was running very poorly and was undriveable. I took the car in to get looked at be a specialist and got it back 6 weeks later. The OMP was failing and the fuel injectors needed refurbing in the end. Heres some pics from late last year As you can tell by this point I was very happy hence the cleaning session! I gave the car plenty of TLC and enjoyed it up untill november, aiming to take it off the road for winter and garage it at my friends place. As the winter went by I gathered up a few bits for it, consisting of a Knightsports FCD, strut braces, headlight scoop and a Decat (Not yet fitted). I got it out of the garage 3 weeks ago and re-taxed it for the summer. Ive modified the front numberplate holder and chopped the plate down too, keeping it within Legal specs yet looking much less cluttered at the front of the car. The decat is the next item to be fitted, then its bodywork time. The wings need tidying up and rear arches before they start to rust. Heres some pics of late. These were taken on my favourite local road through Nant-y-Garth. An enjoyable yet demanding road that complements any sports bred car. The sound of the turbo and rotary engine echoing off the walls/cliff faces send a chill down my spine. And Finally a picture to describe how my evening drive was. If a picture could say a thousand words, this would be it I'm hoping to have more enjoyment through the summer weather in this car. As a winter fix to run alongside my daily car (Golf V6 4Motion), I am considering buying an Mx5 as a more useable toy. Thanks for reading. Mike.

What a cool car you have mike. And they look great in white. The fcs are growing on me and they are still sooooo cheap. I'm presuming it's wales you live in. Great roads-some of my favourites too. I have had so my fun on mtb trips driving those roads in either the rx3 or the rotary chevette.
It's nice to see a FC with original wheels and not stupid big ugly chrome mags. Just always warm it up properly and itll last ages. Can you ditch the omp. It's what I and many others do. Just add 2 stroke oil in to tank at 100- 200 to 1 depending on how hard you expect to drive. This beats burning dirty sump oil (which is not meant to burn so hence leaves lots o carbon deposits inside engine which over time chokes them, or worse falls off and jams a tip etc) It also means you'll always have protection from an oil that is designed for the job and does not leave carbon as it burns. Any decent quality 2 stroke oil designed for high performance motor bikes or outboards will do. Look it up.

Cheers guys for the warm welcome.
Xr2johnxr2: Nice car! Any bits left over let me know! I'm addicted to the turbo sound! You have to pay the price for it though!
Yoeddynz: Thanks for your kind words. I'm aiming to keep it looking retro yet with a few mechanical upgrades, making it a usable and classic looking car. I'd like to remove the Air pump once I've fitted the decat and I may ditch the OMP in time. I'm learning more about these engines gradually. I'm considering in the mean time adding 2 stroke oil in anyway to provide extra protection.

Hey hey, wotcher from another Rex-ophile ;D Your FC looks lovely, the later models like that were so much more purposeful than the earlier bodyworks. Love the late rear lights. Like Alex said, it's nice to see the original TII meshies surviving too. You know that (if you can find one, they're a bit rare) the Cabriolet TII versions had an alloy bonnet? If you can track one down it's well worth the swap because as you've no doubt noticed, the bonnet on your coupe is made out of something heavier than the heart of a black hole

Cheers Luckyseven. Yeh the Kouki versions look and feel much more complete! And its the minor revisions that all add up, like the deeper front bumper and engine changes. I've been aiming to keep it looking factory'ish, a bit like yours. The rear lights remind me of the early skyline afterburner lamps. I'd love to source an alloy bonnet, thing is they are like poor quality wobbly children's play pony leftovers :-(.

Small update with some random pictures. I went to a friends birthday celebration the other night and ended up parking next to this very mint Supra Heres a picture that I randomly took when I was driving though town. Thought it was quite cool Heres some pictures of the retro interior. Showing the Rare JDM steering wheel fitted from when I bought it. Also showing the rotary switch gear and general retroness. And lastly a picture of the engine may. Showing the Air filter and Strut brace. Its quite dirty under here as an alternator belt was shredding itself into black tar/dust.

Very tidy example, that. Lol, the vicious fan kills belts horribly. Well worth an electric conversion if you can face it. I've never fitted in FCs, my knees hit the bottom of the wheel. Which is weird cos they look more spacious than an FD but apparently aren't. Its also a shame cos looking at a nice white TII like yours makes me really want a Red Suns Initial D replica

Upate. Due to personal reasons I am currently the only person at home who can drive a car currently. My Dad has been having heart troubles, my mother does not have a driving license and is also awaiting a hip replacement and my sister has no car currently. So my Golf (Pictured at the start) has been struggling to assist me at this moment in time. Its too low, too small inside and is using fuel like no tomorrow (being a 2.8). I'm lucky I get fuel from work weekly but it soon gets used. So its been put to rest so I can give it TLC. So what options was I left with car wise. With a budget sub £800, Ive been looking at 406 HDI's, along with jags, mercs, bmws etc. All Big cars, fuel consumption reasonable'ish and can carry my family around when required in comfort and safety. A quick browse on ebay monday night led me to a BMW 525 TDS 4 miles from my house. Tax and test till Feb, new battery, belts and suspension arms, £500 Buy it now or make offer! Sounds too good to be true! Well I made an offer of £450 and found myself going to veiw it 20 mins after the offer was made. The buyer insisted I see it before handing over some money! How Kind! The owner was the landlord of a local. He had a Van for the pub but may need to sell, so he bought a Mondeo hatchback incase he needs to carry large items, hence the sale of the BMW, being a saloon its not practical for him. I took the trip to see it, the owner was a plesant chap, well spoken and very polite, I knew this car was for me. Having owned an old E28, E30 and currently restoring an E30, I have a soft spot for BMW's of this Era. The Deal was done and deposit left over. I collected the car last night after work, having half a tank of diesel in it made it more of a winner again, making me realise I've really fell on my feet. I had to take a trip to the hospital straight away in it to visit my Dad. Driving the M51 engine BMW is a true joy, inside you really cant tell its a diesel. When launched in the early nighties, the engine was so far advanced and refined than any other diesel engined production car. Being powerful when required it is also very a civilised car. It was also the first production car in the world to have an Electronicly controlled diesel engine. As a result of this, BMW had to write DIESEL on the fuel gauge to remind the driver that they are driving a DERV. Interesting! Heres a pic of the beast, I'll get some more when the sun is out.

Sorry to read about your father. Hope he has a speedy recovery. Love the RX's. I used to drive first generation RX7's and had a metallic bright green 1979 car, on original 13'' rims and no rear spoiler. Eventually sold for an Elford turbo. I used to look after Mazda UK's press fleet in 1989 and had to spend 2 weeks driving a turbo2 convertible, running it in prior to being loaned out. I was only 23 and loved being paid to drive it. All the Mazda department heads had gunmetal grey turbo2's at Mazda UK down in Tunbridge Wells. Ahh, they were the days. I've been looking at getting another 1st generation RX again. Ideally a TWR replica of the old touring car but with a later twin rotor engine maybe? Anyway, nice car fella.

Thanks for the input guys. My dad is slowley recovering.
The BMW is transporting family members around at the moment, it has proved reliable, safe and comfortable. So I have treated it to a full service, bosch wiper blades, new rear tyres, clear front and side repeaters, Ranger Rover tuning box (Fits fine!Goes like stink!), a full valet, new BMW roundals, rear bootlid de-badge, HID headlight bulbs and Alarm and immobiliser system
I also have new Haliwell Jones numberplates to fit and a bootlid small lip spoiler.
Pics to follow. Mike
