Well, I thought I'd introduce myself on here by showing you all my new motor. Just picked it up a couple of days ago, with less than 75,000 miles on the clock The interior and chassis/sills are clean and solid, and totally original ;D Bodywork is a little untidy, but I'm figuring on keeping it standard for a year before selling it on as I bought it with a new MOT. I might get some honda/volvo wheels for it, and I may weld the diff up (I had an S13 200sx before, but the engine went before I really got comfortable going sideways ). The main jobs are little things like small electrical problems and a small amount of tidying, such as removing the boot spoiler and refinishing it. This is only about 2/3 the power of the S13 I had (135bhp), and only 50kg lighter (1200kg kerb-weight), but it should slide OK. The stickers will probably get binned after a month or two once I get bored with 'em... What do you guys reckon?

Looks like a nice one i have had 3 Silvia's over the years. my last one was white to its easy to get the power above a standard 200sx. with bolt on mods you can see 200bhp don't boost without an intercooler. Volvo 740 / 940 and Saab intercoolers fit in nice

Cheers for the info. I was kinda worried about a turbo with no IC... Would an S13 wing mount IC fit with a bit of modification? Sorry, kinda looking for budget mods as I'm looking for work ATM... And I'm thinking a welded diff will be the first port of call

Sounds like a plan there James . Not a bad motor at all really. Sooo, when's a T25 going to be fitted? .

an s13 wing mount would fit but they are very small and not really up to the job i fitted a Volvo 740 intercooler and water rad in my 1st Silvia costing a grad total of £25 this is the rads painted up the piping i used was exhaust offcuts from a local exhaust manufacture FREE! A good free mod is to cut down the actuator arm on the turbo. you need to thread one end and weld a long nut on the other to make it adjustable. 12mm shorter gives around 10/12psi if i remember right

Cracking looking car. Full of WIN. Give it a clean and get any signs of crust attended to and you have a J-Tin classic. Not many of these around now-a-days.
BTW: If the stickers come off in one piece, i will releive you of them for the cost of a beer.

Wacomuk - wow, only £25... I think I'll be lucky to find a bargain like that, but I will keep my eyes open. Good job on the recon - they look great! Do you have any more info, or a link to a 'how to' on the actuator arm mod? I think I also would need to plug/weld a pov hole I've had a quick look on silvia.co.uk, and it looks like nissan built in a fail-safe, which cuts boost at 9 PSI... Quagmire - I like your 300 mate - Had to look twice. It looks a lot like an S13 from the front. Your close by too - I just picked this up from Rugby ;D Rav - I'll have to see about the stickers for ya - It was off the road last year, with a young lad doing it up for the scumball. He sold cos he ran out of funds, so the stickers should be nearly new. As such, hopefully they won't be brittle and should come off in one piece with a hair-dryer or heat-gun. Not sure about removing all the rust... There's nothing really substantial, but I'm not looking to spend a lot (if anything really) on this one. I did mention that the sills are solid and original, but they are on the way... I'd give them 3 years if looked after before they start getting the MOT'ers notice. Speedle - I will get in contact if I remember. It'll be about this time next year if all goes to plan... Which is to drive it for a year, then MOT it again and sell up... I guess I just want another S13 Well on with the update... Oil change number one has been done... with the cheapest 10W40 I could find. Don't worry, it won't be in there long. Just wanted to give it a few miles to clean it out. I have some 'Valvoline 10W40 Turbo' oil to go in after a few miles have passed... Still cheap-ish, but should do the job. Anyway, gave it a quick run around the block with ChasR, and it looks like the temperature sensor/thermostat needs replacing. It did move, but only very slightly... I found myself putting my foot down a bit to try and get it to move but to no avail. After we pulled it onto my drive, we were greeted by a wall of smoke... (I could barely see the car 3 meters behind mine ) At the moment I can't say what it is, but I'm hoping it's just all the scummy caked on old oil burning off. Could be the turbo, but I doubt very much it's the engine... Got seriously paranoid and did a cold compression test... Turned out better than I could of hoped for - 180 PSI on 1,2 and 4, and 175 PSI on no. 3 ;D Also found a slight leak in the exhaust down pipe which smokes a little. I'm going to remove the heat shield and have a closer look soon. All in all, I couldn't really be happier. After about 6 hours work, the majority of the little niggles have been sorted (well, all the quick small jobs anyhow ) Time to get started on that boot repair me-thinks Laters all, Jimbo.

Actuator arm mod 1. Measure actuator off the car from body to end of arm 2. cut arm in the middle and take out 10/15mm 3. thread one end of the arm 25/30mm and weld a long bolt to the other end 25/30mm long bolt 4. screw the 2 bits back together and measure the length. set it to around 10mm shorter than original and test from there. Use a boost gauge!!! don't BOOST WITHOUT AN INTERCOOLER FITTED (BANG!!!) Silvia's do have a mechanical boost valve POV, its on the top of the inlet manifold on the drivers side. Unscrew this usually very stiff!. You can either take it down to your local plumbers merchants and buy a copper cap or push a bolt head into the bottom of the POV and weld it up and refit the POV Another nice small free mod is setting the timing up. On Silvia's the timing is factory set to 15 DBTC but you can get a few more BHP's buy setting it to 17.5 DBTC. i have ran every Silvia i have owned like this without any problems Hope this helps

Thanks a lot for that mate ;D
I saw your red one on sivia.co.uk - looks sweet!
Well,I took a trip down the local scrappy today in search of a saab/volvo front mount setup, but to no avail - instead, all I could find was an IC off a TDI discovery - it's not massive, but it is 2 inches thick, with 50mm boost pipes.
I've seen some silvias with a similar IC mounted above the engine, with a big bonnet vent for cooling (possibly with the fj20 bonnet)... Can anybody recommend or slate this way of doing things?
It was cheap enough at a fiver anyway ;D good for a scrappy that normally rips you off big time...
If not, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a volvo setup.

wow more Warwickshire based J classic fans :-)
Personally I'd go front mount as it's less work, get's more airflow and doesn't sit on top of a hot engine.

I saw one of these yesterday and I thought, blimey haven't seen one of those for a while.... Good looking car mate. IC wise, my old Scooby had it mounted on top of the engine, hence the big bonnet scoop. If it's good enough for Subaru and all that.

Top mount will work and probably give you better throttle response as there is less pipe work, The down sides with this type of mount are heat soak when not moving / rain water on the spark plugs / cosmetic alterations to bonnet / possibly stopping good air flow though the water rad. The original Silvia water rad is easy to move forward by 100mm. I did this on my last Silvia so I could get piping behind I used 1 length of 25mm by 25mm ally angle and 2 bolts to relocate the bottom. and 2 ally 100mm tubes and some threaded bar + washers to relocate the top The bottom of the rad is only sat in 2 rummer mounts, all you have to do is fix the ally angle 100mm further back on to the sub frame, re-drill the holes and the rad just drops in You will have to remove the fan cowl My last Silvia Gone but not forgotten

Nice car, good to see people still taking an interest in these cars I've had a few of these like wacomuk, although I think he started a few years before me. I got my first one end of 2002. First one got written off by an uninsured driver, the 2nd one was an FJ20 that I sold and went to Ireland, and the replacement for the written off one was then smashed into the side by a young kid.
