I have been loitering around on this forum for a while so it's about time i posted one of my rides ;D
Mancona..............a car never made by Opel from the factory but it's from a few Opel lover imaginations .
Take a standard Manta B ( this one is a hatch, spit on by most manta owners)
Boring i see you all shout.... well i had built a mancona out of an exclusive coupe a few years ago
The gold one is the mancona i built and the blue one is the exclusive i built for my wife
So i thought i could make a mancona out of a hatch that would turn heads
Looking through autotrader i spotted a hatch so i went for a look. It was white, quite rough but with a huge history and the owner had owned it for the last 10 years, it was up for £900
I looked round the car and it needed lots of work after fred in her local garage did touch up work for many years
She had reciepts for thousands of pounds[]
So i offered her £300 quid, i said i didn't want to offend her but the car needed lots of work so i'll walk away and leave my number.
3 week later she said come and get it.
This is when it started to change......
The interior was the non recaro geography teacher brown, hmmmm.... nice
So not wanting to waste anything Manta i removed it with clinical precision and then put it all on ebay. seats.door cards. carpet. dash. headling the lot, even the bloody brown clips in the boot.
IT DIDN'T MAKE A POUND[]
It went to the local tip, the lot. They moaned at the tip as i was throwing car parts
I stripped it all out and fitted a single monza recaro, it was fun with that and it could carry loads of stuff ( but not people[])
It soon became time to chop it's face off and mancona it
So one day i went over to Garys and we decided to Mancona it using the gold Mancona parts i had been holding onto.
The front end was cut off back to the inner wings and about 6" removed from the front of the chassis as Asconas are shorter.
I drove the car around in the gold/ white combination with no interior just one seat for a couple of months until i could bear it no longer and had to ship the other project out of my garage and give this my full attention.
It was fun driving it around as i had loads of people asking me if i was doing it while or gold and the police who loved to pull me in it coundn't believe i had insurance, so i carried all my docs with me.
I just had to put different springs/ shocks on it and the bbs wheels i had on the other Mancona.
The sliding sunroof on a manta is a deathnail in the car.. soo off to the scrappers and i noticed the calibra has the same roof profile. £30 for the calibra roof and off we go
Calibra roof added and powered up ( easy )
Arches added. astra mk 1, front on back, back on front and reversed
The engine is a 20 let with a top mount t3, more pics later as i'm too drunk to type ;D
