Hi everyone, Just joined this here forum after much lurking... Now i'm after a cool retro daily, willing to spend up to about 700-800ish. Nothing too specific in mind, maybe BMW, Merc, SAAB, VW, something japanese (or even italian! ;D) etc, but really anything awesome considered. Ideally with an MOT too and located near yorkshire way (but of course i'll travel if something really catches my eye). Currently rocking an awesome Fiat Cinquecento that i've had since my university days and has been amazing reliable, but I fancy a bit of a change. Might even consider a swap for the fiat if thats of interest to anyone. EDIT: Just had a thought, this awesomely cool retro daily can't have a massive engine as I had a 12 mile daily commute (and insurance considerations), so the absolutely biggest machine I could manage would be a 5-series/190e/saab 9000 (mmmm....saab 9000 turbo ). And of course something sporty would be grand too, nice bit of old school RWD, Golf GTi etc. Oh and if it could tow too that would be nice, but not essential as we have an estate car for that work. Grand, cheers people! Mr Z.

Lo mate, welcome to the board. This stype of thread would fit well in the General board - we get a few of them. As you have nothing specific in mind, you'll probably get a lot more input there as a lot of people pass over this board without looking. Just a thought

MR2 Mk1? Fantastic cars but I think it might be a bit young for me. My g/f thinks it's potential midlife crisis material It's a red T-Bar, mechanically spot on and has been a summer 2nd car for past three years. Bags of MOT, tax till May, sitting on BBS crosswires with all new rubber. Bodywork is v.good - bit of bubbling on one rear arch and front spoiler needs a rub down and respray if you're picky. Just had new rear callipers (MK1 trouble spot) and £400 service with bills to prove. £800 would be botttom dollar though. Located nr Huddersfield. Drop me a pm if you want to know more. Cheers, Nick

i'm thinking of parting with my merc. its a 1990 H reg 230e saloon in white, 2.3 petrol with an auto box (with sport mode) ,144k miles, interior is pretty much mint, just some minor blemishes on the body but nothing serious or unsightly! i'm only the 3rd owner with loads of history (most MB main dealer). elec sunroof, aircon (needs a regas), elec windows all round, central locking, just had new discs and pads fitted alround, MOT till June 10. Does between 28 and 35mpg depending on the driving, not that far from you, based in Salford near Manchester. would be expecting about £625 for it. Has the distinctive merc relaxing 'waft along' feel when driving it, would look great lowered too.
Also looking for a car for my sister-in-law who is going for her test this week so i'm sure we could do a deal with the cinq. just drop us a pm if the merc floats your boat. cheers Pete

I know of someone thinking of selling there 1967 Mk1 DAF 44 as far as I know one of only 2 or 3 in Britian. He said he wants about £800 thinks its MOTd and of course being from 67 tax is free. Expect 40mpg. Bodywork needs a little tlc but essentially rust free. Mechanicals from what ive seen are pretty good. This car is 6volt and some parts differ from the later cars as a result make sure parts suppliers know its a mk1

Hi everyone, Thanks for all the replies, sorry for not getting back earlier, my internet's been down... I'll try and reply to everyone in order... nick45: The MR2 sounds rather cool, could you get a piccie up? Or PM it to me if you like... Also, how bad is the bubbling? I've already had a look at a mk1 MR2 and there was pretty much nothing left of any of the wings. And does the roof seal properly? topcat: Is the bimmer a saloon or touring? Any T&T, and where you located? slackerTHEpinstriper: I've a real soft spot for polo breadvans, but I prefer the look of the mk2's, and it'd be just too small, sorry! Cool car though, thanks for the offer... @bolton pete: I assume the merc is a w124? To be honest, it's a bit too big of a car for what i'm after, but they are awesome bits of kit. Maybe in a few years time when i'm a bit older i'd love to waft about in one. However, I know someone else who might be interested, so i'll let him know... @pauldaf44: Fraid the 44 just isn't really my bag, thanks for the offer though mate. jj132: Could you drop me a pic of the Cav? I'm in 2 minds as i'm not a big vauxhall man, but it'd be taking a look at a photo... Thanks everyone for your ideas, anyone else got anything cool stashed away?

For an MR2 the bubbling is not significant at all!! A little bit on one rear arch. Front wings are rock solid. T Bar roof is fine - a couple of drops fall onto the passenger seat once you start moving again after heavy rain but it's leather anyway. Nowt to worry about. Sorry about the pics but it's dark when I get home at the moment.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the replies...
Fraid i'm just not much of a cavelier man sorry chief! The MR2 and Volvo look pretty nice, i'm just getting myself some insurance quotes to see whats what. I've also been offered a saab very close by that i'm going to look at this weekend, see what happens...
Chopper666, i'm a bit confused, whats a "B3 passat wagon "woody" surf wagon type thing"? And surely a 1.6td must be god-awfully slow?
Cheers,
Z
