- ABS
- Alloy wheels with 4 very good matching Michelin tyres
- Engine: 2.0 litre, four cylinder, 16V, 136 BHP
- Gearbox: 4 speed automatic, Economy & Sport settings
Mechanical condition:
With only 105k miles, the engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes and steering are all perfect.
Being a post facelift car, this has the later 16V engine. The engine starts first time, every time, runs smooth, no rattles, no smoke, no overheating. More than enough go with 136BHP but will easily do 30 MPG on commute and high 30s MPG on a motorway run. New thermostat recently fitted, as the engine was not getting up to full temperature. New heavy duty battery, 3 year guarantee from ECP.
Four speed automatic gearbox shifts as it should, smoothly, with eager kickdown when required. No leaks, clean ATF and catalytic converter heat-up is working as it should (holds lower gears longer on start up to allow the catalytic converter get up to operating temperature - 1400'C - as quickly as possible).
Suspension recently had new anti-roll bushes fitted, by local Mercedes specialist, with receipt to prove. Suspension is smooth, no knocks, no rattles, gives very comfortable ride. Power steering works as it should, with no play in the system. ABS brakes work perfectly. New front pads fitted 4k miles ago.
The previous owner had the car serviced at the time the last MoT was done - within the past 6 months / 5k miles. The service was done by Kwik Fit, cost £259.99 with an itemised bill to confirm what work was done - oil, filters, plugs, brake fluid...
There are no mechanical faults, the car does not require any repairs or immediate servicing. Exhaust is good, matching set of Michelin tyres (not cheap) are less than half worn.
Interior condition:
Leather is in good condition, with very minor wear. Only the front arm rest shows its age. Has original overmats and rubber mats. Clean boot. Has spare (steel) wheel, jack and tool kit. Original first aid kit present.
All windows, central locking, mirrors, sunroof work as they should, as does the cruise control.
Pioneer flip-front stereo with remote control sounds good, with upgraded rear Kenwood speakers (original size and concealed behind original grilles) and front speakers, which may or may not be standard, I haven't checked.
All dashboard warning lights come on when the ignition is switched on and all go off when the engine is started. However, the SRS light comes on when the headlights are switched on. Not wishing to drive a car with potentially explosive airbags, I have had this checked out (diagnostic check) and the SRS system is not showing any faults. The problem is apparently caused by a fault affecting the electrics behind the instrument cluster. This is not an MoT failure, as the SRS light goes off when the engine is started. Also, the light bulb failure warning lamp sometimes flickers on for no reason (even if all lights are switched off). Two cunningly placed black pieces of masking tape are covering up these two warning lights.
Bodywork condition:
Very good for it's age, bearing in mind that W124s do rust. Nearside front wing is perfect. Offside front wheel arch and bootlid had a little rust, but this has been treated and touched up. There is a very small bump in the centre / rear top part of the bootlid.
Paintwork has the odd little mark here and there, but nothing that stands out. Being gloss black, non-metalic, the paintwork is easy to touch up and match.
All external trim is present and correct. Chrome and window trim looks like new. Very small (and I mean small) crack to centre of rear bumper, I assume caused by a tow hook coming in contact with the bumper.
The original E200 rear badge has been changed (by me) to read E320 by replacing the 3 and the 2. All digits line up and are stuck in the correct original location.
Overall, this is a very comfortable, good looking old Mercedes. I have been totally honest, having disclosed every single fault. Come and see the car, you will not be disappointed.
