OK - relisting this on a number of Dub forums as I have now fitted a new heater matrix, so the main 'bad point' with the car is sorted
I’m gutted to be selling my GT. There’s so much more I wanted to do with this car, but I’m now getting married and the wedding is booked … but not paid for! …. and I already have another B3 as my daily.
It’s a 1988 1.8 8v. The engine is original and unmolested, and is the same legendary and bomb proof PB unit used in the Mk2 Golf GTI. It has 192k on the clock but you wouldn’t know it. It runs, pulls and cruises really smoothly. Read on…
These Passats are becoming rare now. According to howmanyleft.co.uk , there are only 42 8v Passat GTs left on the road in the UK ... and it's in silver which IMHO is the best colour for the GT model.

I have more pics I can email you.
The great bits!
Long MOT (expires 23 Sept 2012) I have all MOT certs from ’92-
Taxed til end Dec 2011. Dealer stamped service book from new to 128k. I don’t have the paperwork for servicing after that but I have changed the oil and filter every 3k since I owned it.
New cambelt and tensioner professionally fitted @ 188k (so only 4k miles on new belt) I have bill.
VW G60 Steels with Interstate Sport IXT-1 195/50/R15 tyres all with around 5 mm tread left. (spare is a bog standard VW steel) The G60s have been in storage and are in mint condition. Original factory paint, not resprayed, no kerbing and come with centre caps and bolt covers.
JVC face off CD/MP3/Radio and electric aerial.
The car sits on nearly new TA Technix adjustable height coilovers. They are well suited to the cars size and weight – the ride is excellent - firm but not too bouncy. These were brand new on just before the UK Passats meet in July this year and have done less than 1k miles. New front top mounts fitted as well and I had the camber professionally checked and adjusted after fitting. I have only lowered the car a bit because of the speed humps in my town. It will go much lower!
The engine pulls really well through all the gears and rev range. I have replaced all the vacuum lines and fitted new genuine VW ECU temp sensor and knock sensor which have sharpened up the throttle response. I did a compression test 4 months ago which showed a range of 11.5 to 12 bar across all cylinders, so no significant difference on any one cylinder which is what you want to hear, and testament to the legendary VW engine build quality. The Haynes manual quotes 10-13 Bar when the engine is new so it's bang on considering age and mileage.
The car has just had an oil change (I have always used fully synthetic every 3k since I have owned it), oil filter and fuel filter. On start up particularly, one tappet is a bit noisy but this goes when the engine is fully warmed up.
The front seats have been replaced with Mk3 Golf GTI seats in really good condition. The driver’s outer bolster is showing signs of wear but the fabric is sound/no holes or rips.
For a 23 year old car it’s remarkably rust free. There are a few rust spots but these are only surface and the metal is still sound. Importantly, the seam welds on the bottom of the doors are rust free. Some of the drain holes on the bottom of the doors are showing very slight surface rust but all the metal is sound. The arches are all sound too - the arch covers are not hiding any rust that I can tell. The standard body kit covers the sills also, but at the jacking points you can see they are rust free. The guy who just MOT’d it commented on how sound the underside of the car looked.
Central locking, electric door mirrors, electric sunroof, electric windows, instruments all working with the exception of things specifically mentioned under ‘not so great bits’ below.
I did a text check to 83600 when I bought the car and it’s clear of any nasty stuff. Happy to fwd the text onto the buyer.
The not so great bits, but please remember it’s a 23 year old car!
The rear nearside electric window switch is not working although can be operated from the driver switch. Same window is a bit sticky when closing and sometimes needs a helping hand. The door card on rear passenger side has a small tear.
The sunroof seal is showing signs of wear, although it is not leaking
The trip computer is not working.
There are small signs of surface rust in a few places but nothing major and the metal is sound/no holes
Around the car the bodywork shows signs of 23 years of use with the usual car park dings. The bonnet too has small dents and stone chips. Front panel has plenty of stone chips but these were made of plastic so don’t corrode.
The edging strip around the glass is showing some corrosion under the rubber in a couple of places but it’s not affecting window operation and not leaking.
I can email you pics of other bits on request – just ask.
£695 ovno. Weighing up the great and not so great bits that’s a fair price when you consider that the wheels/tyres would fetch £200 alone, and the coilies are nearly new – take those things into account and you are getting a modern VW classic with new MOT and recent cambelt change for £300 quid!
I’ve been as honest as I can in describing the car but I would recommend that you come and see it if poss. It’s available for viewing in Biggleswade (A1 Bedfordshire), and I can take you out for a test drive also. Please call Chris on 07988 440991. No timewasters/tyre kickers please, and if we agree a price online/by email, be fair - that's the price you pay when you pick it up
