I have no idea if this counts as retro or not, but it's certainly a bit different. It's a Metrocab, which I bought on a bit of a whim a while back and haven't really used much, and its parking space has now been stolen by a Citroën CX so it needs to go. It's been converted to a manual gearbox at some stage in its life, and has also had a later "banana" Transit engine fitted. It drives as a Metrocab should - it's not quick (will just about do 70, but happier cruising at 60), it doesn't really handle, but it will turn on a sixpence. It has a bench seat and two jump seats in the back, and just the driver's seat in the front, although a passenger seat could be fitted if need be. It also comes with a pair of extending aluminium ramps for loading wheelchairs into the back. There are a few bits that don't work - the front heater fan (the rear fan works fine), the rear wiper, the taxi light on the top, and the fuel gauge is temperamental. The passenger side front window doesn't work either, although the driver's (electric) does. Lights and wipers all work, and the headlights are actually quite good, unusually for a Metrocab. It's also had rally-style bonnet clips fitted, although the main catch seems to hold OK. The engine runs well and the gearbox, brakes, steering etc. all seem fine. There is a bit of a whine from one of the rear wheel bearings, but not too bad. Tyres are all good, and it was actually in service as a cab until August this year. It's MoT'd until February 29th - no tax though. I have no idea if there'll be any interest in this as it's a bit of an oddity, but then there seems to be some love for oddities on here so I thought I'd give it a try. Here's a picture:

I was going to pay £600 for one at the weekend but the seller just vanished.
The one I was looking at had been an Edinburgh taxi and they have a particularly strict annual test so I expected it would be in better than average nick but I would've been gutted to pay twice as much as this one.
I was looking forward to having a really unusual motor and I reckon there's tons of untapped potential.

scorted they only weigh 1550kgs so the asking price is pretty much the scrap value at the moment they arent fitted with cats unless used as london cabs ;-) i weighed on in about three weeks ago that was involved in an rta shame really as all the parts to do this one were on it :-(
Scorted the running costs are simular to a transit about 45 to the gallon if your lucky round town and 55 on a run specially as this is converted the auto ones love diesel lucky ta get 30 mpg out of an auto ;-)

These are RWD, I believe most of the running gear is Mk3 Transit. Mpg isn't the Metrocabs' strongest suit - you're looking at around mid 30s depending on how you drive it. That one on eBay made £389 this time around, but to be fair it does look a bit shinier than mine, although that could just be the pictures. Reading that eBay ad reminded me though - mine's recently had a new alternator too.

the metrocab that I had must of been looked after well then cos she did more than mid 30's ... Might just be my driving style then - I have to say I've never managed to get close to 45mpg out of a diesel Transit... It does do a bit better on a run to be fair, and you're right it's a lot better on diesel than the automatic one I had years ago - goes better too.

I did actually have a quick look at the pump but couldn't see any manufacturer's markings. However, according to the ever-helpful biomotors.co.uk, all 1994-2000 DI Transits (i.e. anything with the "banana" engine) are fitted with Bosch pumps and should therefore be fine on veg.
