Finally finished the Civic in time for the Gathering, and now that my job is moving to within walking distance of my home, I have no need of a 'commuter' car as well as my LS400, so the Civic is up for sale.
Bought as a non-MOT'd, one-owner from new, 49k mile near minter, it needed nothing apart from a pair of CV boots for an MOT, however both front CV joints were noisy so they were replaced at the same time.
The full list of modifications are below, but as a base car it is excellent. Low mileage, near mint inside and out, with a nice, tight engine and auto gearbox that starts on the button every time.
Having no history with the car, I had the cambelt and tensioner replaced by MantaPhil of this here parish, as well as treating the car to a mini-service with new fluids and filters.
The Civic had a small amount of rust in the usual places [rear arches where the trim clips through the arch lip, rear sill ends, and around the aerial mount at the top of the A-pillar], but these have all been cut out and replaced with fresh metal by Hardcore, there is now NO RUST on this car anywhere.
As the rear quarters needed paint to cover the rust repairs, I had a trusted friend repaint both sides in the stock Honda La Mer Green [the rarest colour on a 4th-gen Civic], as well as painting below the belt line in Peugeot Graphite Grey for an added 'JDM-yo' touch. The entire car was then re-laquered. It should be noted that this was a 10-hour 'mates rates' repaint, I was not about to spend thousands of a full refinishing, so although the car looks really rather good, there are a few small marks here and there, but you really need to be looking for them to spot.
After paint, the new lower panels looked a little 'heavy', so I employed the services of Mystery Machine to create the small silver "DOHC 16 valve" stickers on the rear doors, which breaks the panel up nicely, and adds to the look.
The suspension has been replaced with a set of TA-Technix coilovers, which are designed for a 5th/6th gen Civic, adapted to fit using EG front forks. The ride on the stock front springs was terrible, so I replaced them with some Rally Design 600lb 8" springs which ride very nicely indeed. The top A arms will occasionally knock on the underside of the inner arches, due to the lowness. There are two solutions to this. Either raise the front of the car half an inch or so [gasp!] or cut out and fabricate some 'relief' sections in the inner wings to clearance the A-arms. The latter is what a lot of the low Civics in the States do.
Extended top mount 'top hats' all round increase the suspension travel when lowered to retain shock 'stroke' without bottoming out. At the front, Skunk Pro2 upper camber adjustable A-arms have been fitted, to tuck the top of the wheel into the arch, and at the rear, 'generic' camber arms have been fitted to do the same.
The wheels are 16x7 Jeep Grand Cherokee wheels, which have been sandblasted and powdercoated in silver, literally days before RRG. They are wrapped in a set of part-worn Nankang NS2 165/45R16 tyres with plenty of life left in them, and fitted to the car using high quality 2-piece adaptors sourced from America.
The front indicators have had the amber inserts removed, and instead run silvered amber bulbs. Clear side repeaters have been added, and amber bulbs have been placed in the corner lamps to act as running lights [the headlamps also illuminate as sidelights when the ignition is on]. The rear clusters have been tinted red, [yes, the indicators do flash red and the reversing lights are pink, easily remedied with some thinners if this is not your thing]
A new set of number plates have been fitted in the classic "Serck" style font, I have the stock rear, and an import sized front, both in Charles Wright font that will go with the car.
Inside, it is a rhapsody of brown velour. The interior is near mint, with only a few small scuffs on the brown plastic where feet have been in the drivers' footwell, and a small impression on the passenger rear door card. The only accoutrements have been an OMP-style three-spoke suede steering wheel, and the additional of an Alpine CD headunit which also has iPod connectivity and control [iPod not included]. There is also a generic 10" sub and amp in the boot, which although quite old gives a very good bass accompaniment to the very good stock Honda speakers in the cabin.
So, in summary:-
Exterior
No rust at all, repainted in Le Mer Green/Peugeot Graphite Grey
Team Heko Wind Deflectors
Golf III VR6 splitter
Debadged Rear
Clear indicators/side repeaters
Red tinted rear clusters
Custom "DOHC 16 valve" badges
Freshly refurbed 16x7 Jeep Grand Cherokee wheels on adaptors, with 165/45R16 Nankang NS2 tyres
Interior
Near mint brown velour seats, 60/40 split rears
E/Wx4, E/S/R, E/M, PAS, C/L, adjustable steering column
OMP style 3-spoke suede steering wheel
Alpine DC-9871R CD Head Unit with iPod Connectivity AND Control, with generic 10" sub and amp in boot.
Running Gear
1.4 16v DOHC petrol with 53,000 miles. New cambelt and tensioner at around 51k.
4-speed [plus non switchable O/D] auto box, changes perfectly.
45MPG on at run, high 30's around town
Rear stock silencer replaced with Cherry Bomb-style box, nice tone, not overly loud. Finished with a twin round slash cut tailpipe.
Suspension
TA-Technix EG/EK coilover suspension, adapted to fit with EG front forks, running 600lb 8" Rally Design springs
Skunk Pro2 camber adjustable upper front arms
Generic rear camber adjustable arms
I will also add that apart from the second-hand EG suspension forks, the P/W Nankangs, the stereo, and the obvious fact that the Jeep wheels are 'refurbed', all other parts used were supplied brand new and are at the very most 6 months old with less than 5000 miles on them
This is a completely reliable and affordable modified Civic, a 50 fill-up will last you between 350-400 miles depending on driving style and environment. It rides better than expected on 'cheap eBay' coilovers and is completely usable.
To this end, and to prevent the inevitable "I'd buy it if you weren't 30 miles away" responses, I will deliver this car to ANYWHERE in the UK myself, FREE OF CHARGE, on receipt of a non-returnable 200 deposit, to demonstrate its reliability and comfort.
I will also put another 6-months tax on the car, FREE OF CHARGE, if the full asking price is met.
I'm very happy with this little car, and am sure any buyer would be too, which is why I'm happy to do the above to help secure a sale.
Sorry, NO Swaps
