Right, only gods knows why I'm doing this but here goes.
I am putting up for sale my 1991, VW Scirocco Scala Injection.
This one:
retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=readersrides&thread=129563&page=1
I got the car in Oct 2010, it was looking a little tired due to neglect and it had been stolen then recovered. There was no damage to the car as such, just a tiny knock on front drivers wing, and it had probably had a good thrashing.
However the previous owner(w*nker)didn't divulge this information to me prior to the sale. so I ended up coming away with a half decent, albeit tired Scirocco.
Well, To cut a long story short, I decided to renovate/rebuild the sorry son of a beeeatch, just so it looks the part, There was absoultely no rust on this car, and that is still the case. The area around the rear beam mount points is solid unlike so many rocco's. So, I stripped it down, replaced the damaged wing(all sealed correctly, no bodging here)and paid for a full, "glass out" respray, The windscreen and rear screens were left in situ as these are an easy work around and, as the glass is old, they tend to shatter.
So, I got it back from the bodyshop looking imaculate and obviously dent free.
So, there I am, driving around in this mint rocco, getting the occasional admiring looks and people complimenting it, when I thought to myself, "it needs a bit more grunt".
So, I bought a tired TSR Brands Hatch motor( www.tsr-performance.com/webshop/parts-by-category/engines-and-engine-tuning-parts/tsr-circuit-series-engine-packages/brands-hatch-2000cc-8-valve-package/ )from a forum I go on.
I never put an engine in a car without a full assesment/analysis of its condition. Now i'm a reasonably competant home mech, but expert I am not, so I took the lump to "Stanwood Engineering" in Bawtry and got the chaps there to give it a look over. And, as I imagined, it needed a little refresh. So they gave it a hone as the bores were still in remarkable condition, and balanced the engine for which I have all the data sheets. They also fitted new valve guides and recut the valves, then they polished the crank journals. This motor is fitted with the TSR Pack C big valve head and TSR's 102 camshaft(think its 272 but don't quote me on that;))
Once they had finished breathing on it I brought it home and rebuilt it, using all the best quality parts. Kobelschmidt bearings were used throughout, ARP cyl head bolts, genuine VW/Audi piston rings, Brand new Febi oil pump, brand new water pump, genuine thermostat, and oil/water temp senders. Bought a new thermo time switch which was £90!!
Anyway, I cleaned the engine bay while engine was out, then proceeded to fit a brand new Bosch fuel pump and in tank lift pump. Also replaced one of the fuel pipes because the rubber was cracking. Then I purchased another gearbox with longer gears, just so it isn't revving its ass off on the motorways. It'll sit at 70mph now at around 2900 revs, much better.
Its had a brand new LUK clutch, brand new clutch cable, all the brakes are excellent(by 1990 standards). Its had two brand new handbrake cables, two brand new brake cylinders on the rears, new shoes, new discs and pads up front, along with braided hoses all round. It had a brand new radiator, forget the brand but it was a quality unit, I believe the saying, you get what you pay for. I have fitted a lower front strut brace which has stiffened the front up nicely, I have also recently fitted full AVO coilover suspension. This is set at a good ride height(not scraping its ass on the floor like a tw*t)it is a nice compromise giving a firmer, but not back breaking ride. There is still a lot of adjustment either way to suit your style. I also fitted new Febi top mounts when fitting the coilovers.
The interior is fairly standard, with the exception of the ulra violet glow from the clocks instead of the horrible faded green glow it used to have. There are also a full compliment of VDO gauges giving Readings for: Voltage, Oil temp, Oil pressure, and Water temp. It comes on the BBS Cross pattern wheels pictured.
The ATS cups and Borbet A's are to give you an idea of what she can look like.
I have spent many many hours and £?'s on this car.
I have taken this car to many a show, it was showed at Leeds VW festival where it recieved many compliments.
You can use this car as a daily or a track beasty if thats your thing.
Any questions, please ask as I have definately missed things out, I know I will have.
Just remembered, I fitted a Toad Ai606 alarm/immobiliser, which has tilt and microwave sensors fitted, comes with both fobs.
Also remembered I fitted new wheel bearings all round earlier this year.
I think the best thing to do is think, "if it moves, its been replaced!" ;D
Forgot about the 13 row mocal oil cooler....which reminds me, I need to get some foil wrapped round it!
Anyway, heres a few pics, starting with how she was to what she's like now.
