Got this in part exchange and having tidied it up a bit and done a trackday I've had my fun and it's time to move it on, plus the money will come in useful with a house move coming this year!
It's a well put together Locost kit, which as far as I can tell has been done to the Haynes book, but with Morris/Triumph axles instead of Ford - registered as a Mk1 Sellers Special. Chassis is nicely put together and I've tidied up the body work and dash etc. to make it look pretty good really. Drives very well with no known faults, and thanks to a new battery it even starts in the freezing cold weather we're having!
Engine is a 1700 Ford xflow, and it's registered as such. I was told that its had some head work and I'm inclined to believe it given the performance, I'd guess it's around 130bhp. Part of the work I did on it involved a new oil breather system, this is something xflow engines can be a bit sensitive to - doesn't breath heavy and doesn't chuck oil out. Also gave it an oil change and service about a month (250 miles) ago so it's all ready for the summer.
Its running Weber twin 40 carbs which are pretty well set up, with even the choke working well. The exhaust is a 4-2-1 manifold with a repack-able silencer - its nicely loud rather than deafening. Gearbox is a Ford 4 speed with close ratios. Carbs have Ramair filters on and a cold air scoop in the bonnet to feed them (much better looking that the hole it had when I got it!). It all works very well and ran perfectly all day at the trackday I did last week.
Rear axle is a short ratio marina axle I think and has Spax coilovers all round and the rates seem pretty good to me. Double wishbones up front (non of the nasty Robin Hood type stuff) and a 4 link rear end with panard rod. All in it handles like a 7 should and keeps up well with much more expensive/powerful stuff easily. For track use I'd be tempted to fit some stickier rubber, but the tyres that are on it have loads of treat left and aren't bad by any means, I'm just a bit picky (Kuhmo rears, Yokos front).
Brakes are pretty decent (don't need a lot on a car this light), has Ford? discs and calipers up front and drums on the rear. Master cylinder is a Nissan part with a servo (makes the brakes feel nice and keen), the whole lot seems to be in good order.
Seats are Cobra narrows with TRS 3 point harnesses. Drivers seat is on runners so you can be moved to suit driver (a lot of the cars I've seen have a fixed drivers seat) which is useful. Dash has speedo/tacho/oil pressure/water temp/fuel/voltage all which work as they should with back lighting. Pedal box is also ok, which isn't a given on these, spent some time making all the pedals sit level - amazing how much better the car feels for this.
Has an aero screen fitted, which works really well to stop your head being blown off, but I always drive it with a helmet on - think of it like a 4 wheeled motorbike. Comes with a full height glass screen and a storage type fitted cover for the interior when parked up - I took the screen off as I didn't like the look, fitting holes would be easily opened up again.
Think that covers pretty much everything. I'd be happy to answer any questions, or better still come and have a look, don't think you'll be disappointed. I'll happily take you out for a drive in it, but afraid I won't hand over the keys until I have money in my hands - sadly you can't be too careful as these can be a bit of a handful if you're not used to them.
Really I'm after the cash, but might be interested in part exchange for a Chevette/Mk1 Cavalier/4x100 PCD Retro, plus cash.
