Model: Alfa Romeo 75 ts w spares car
Year: 1989
Mileage: 123,000
Tax: 08/09
MOT: 09/09
Location: Shropshire
Price: £1100
Additional Information:
Lovely 75 twinspark, last of the RWD Alfa's with nearly perfect 50:50 weight distribution thanks to the transaxle arrangement that hangs the gearbox & clutch over the rear axle! Although it hasn't got the extra power of the V6 that Clarkson destroyed on TG, the 2.0L is generally considered to have the finer handling balance of the two. I'm not going to argue, as I happen to like power oversteer!
Fully stamped service book, was dealer spec demo car. Grey met, 5 spoke Revo's. I've added K&N, Supersprint exh, Recaro interior. New front & rear pads, clutch 10k ago. Just done rocker gasket. All electrics work, even the headlamp washers!
I have to say that the history on the grey is amazing - it's all there (right down to little things like alloy refurbs & wheel centres) bar the purchase receipt... which would be there but for the fact that it was originally Follett (London Alfa Dealer)'s demo car, which then went into private hands in 1990. All MOT certificates present since its first in 1992.
First owner kept til 04/96 and 46496m. All servicing documents present.
Second owner spent nearly £2.5k on servicing & general maintainance, mostly with Camelot and K&L Autos, N London Alfa specialists. No evidence of any major traumas, just routine consumables & replacements.
It then changed hands again in 2004 at 90k-ish, new clutch at Alfanatic (and a £700 service) at 105k in 03/05. Last Alfanatic service was 03/06 at 111k.
It was also rustproofed in 1996 and I have to say that the treatment is holding out pretty well.
I bought it from a dealer last year at 116k on a deal outside Ebay with the back brakes off. I understand that it had been standing thus for about 8 months. With new pads I was MOT'd £130 and a few sweary hours later, and gave her oil & filters at the time as well. All was rosy until the engine let go (susp. chain tensioner but haven't investigated). Bought crashed car with recently rebuilt engine, which was professionally swapped in Feb. Did front pads at same, also oil & filters (on repl engine). Did rocker gasket last week.
Bad points:
Interior: Although the headlining is unsagged, the sunroof fabric needs re-gluing. Recaro driver's seat squab fabric nastiness.
Body: Sm rust patch under osr rear light. The metal is solid, but the paint has flaked & will need a wee rubdown & touchup. Bonnet release inop (remove grille & pull cable manually). The badge has also fallen off the grille. Couple of tiny stonechips on bonnet.
Mechanical: A bit of prop noise when lifting off in 1st & 2nd. It didn't do it before the engine swap, so I reckon the prop may slightly be out of alignment. Bit of diff whine in 5th. My other two 75s also did this, so it hasn't concerned me. 3rd to 2nd usual story - slow and steady wins the race!
Engine bay could do with a clean; the rocker gasket let go fairly spectacularly a couple of weeks ago! I've since replaced it but there's a bit of a film about the place...
Will need new boots soon - or just swap the 15" wheels from the spares car, the treads are pretty good. Will also need bushing for next MOT, which was only advisory at last test.
What can I say? It's not a total showstopper, but I think one would have to go a long way to find such a well-looked after 75. Apart from the enforced engine swap and the alternator drive belt letting go a couple of months ago I haven't experienced any probs whatsoever. She turned 123k this morning, and is booked in for a fluids check/top up/change inc diff & gearbox next week.
Includes spare 92k LE model, top half respray last year, partially stripped but complete, all the nice bits now on the grey. 4x 15" Team Dynamics alloys. Knackered lump. nsf damage, would pull out, needs bonnet, wing & headlamp.
Plus other spares I've got kicking about, mostly ext trim. Can PM more pics if you're interested.
Cheers,
Rodders.
