Non-tax-exempt Morris 1800 landcrab, 12 months MOT (Jan 2012!!!) 6 mths tax, located in Crewe, Cheshire. Price is £795 no offers, contact me via PM or on O78OO 9O2396
These photos were taken in the summer after a wash and polish-fest, i'll sort out some new photos shortly.
So, after a year of repairing and another year of driving, i'm putting my 'Crab up for sale to generate some coins to be spent on other tat projects. The full story of me rebuilding it is here:
retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=readersrides&thread=37171&page=9#745570
Basically during 2009 I did the following:
Mega welding to front end, headlight bowls + valance
New outer sills both sides + repairs to inners + floorpans + scuttle + 2 door bottoms (all properly seam welded, sealed, painted, waxoyled etc)
New clutch inc hydraulics, exhaust, battery, engine mounts, radiator hoses, entire braking system renewed front to rear including servo, new screen rubber, speedo cable, new carpets, ignition bits (points, leads etc) Hydrolastic pump-up. I have also renewed the moulton couplings in the driveshafts, new indicator switch and fitted new front tyres for this years MOT (just passed today)
I have done 7000 miles in the crab since it hit the road and its been totally 100% reliable, I used it all through last winter in all weathers including commuting between Crewe and Peterborough. It will sit at 70 all day long and I was averaging a genuine 32mpg over a tankful.
Bad points:
Fuel gauge doesnt work (I just do 200 miles then fill up!)
interior could do with 'detailing', its not very clean TBH
Paintwork on the repairs is not a great match
Boot floor is covered in surface rust and is always damp, needs a coat of paint before you put your nice suitcases in there! The dampness comes from the rear screen seal which is past its best.
rust bleb on the bonnet
'elephant trunk' fresh air ducts missing from under the wings, these were knackered when I took em off and I have not got round to replacing em. they're just 100mm/4" flexi placca duct like so should be easily replaced with something from B+Q.
Bit of rot left on one rear arch, I was so sick of welding by the end that I just left this bit, its passed the MOT twice with it so cant be that big a deal.
Thast about it really, i'll be sad to see this go, but I fancy treating myself to another obscure old motor off LeBonCoin so really need to generate some additional tat tokens. Hopefully this 'crab will live on for a good few years now after all that work so it will have been a worthwhile exercise!
I'm not really up for swaps unless you have something really obscure like a Fiat 131 diesel or other such 4-wheeled horror. Cheers!
