For those who don't know, the V888 form is available from the DVLA. It's a way of getting information about a vehicle you own/owned. As the registered keeper you can pay a fee of £5 (at time of posting) and a few weeks later the DVLA will send out the information you requested. You have to be precise though in your request for what information you require and why.
Some third parties can apply for the information but I am unsure how successful these are.
I'm quite obsessed with gaiuning information of my cars (in particular the ones I want to keep for awhile). My previous requests include Previous Owner History for my Mk1 XR2. 6 weeks later (due to the huge amount of info supplied) I was supplied with photocopies of all logbook changes, a formal printout of the names and addresses so they could be read clearly and dates/duration of ownership.
I then applied for the same for my Nissan 200sx and was given a single sheet with a formal printout of names and addresses. When I rang up to ask why I didnt get a photocopy of the paperwork, I was told I wasnt specific enough in my request and would have to apply again.
I will be applying again and I will be requesting all taxation periods and SORN declarations of these vehicles as I was told this info is also held.
So for those who have also done this, what have people requested? Have you got the info or was it declined?
I was thinking about requesting police reports of the vehicle in question as there is a log of each time the reg has been flagged up for checks or reports etc. Could be interesting.
Any other suggestions?

Do you have to pay £5 per request or just request what you want all at once?

Well it has varied for me. £5 for one request/form. This was filled in providing as much info as possible but I have had a return letter stating my request for Taxation of the same vehicle would have to be delt with seperately! (That's another £5 fee and another V888 form to be filled in).
But I think you have to be more specific than saying 'provide me with ALL information you have'. They wont even tell you what they have on file. You just have to request it and see if they have it. Tax, V5c Changes, Police logs is all I can think they have. There is an online MOT history service if you have your logbook handy, but it only goes back as far as the more modern electronic MOTs.

Last time I applied they wanted proof of identification like bank statment etc that wouldn't be returend ! Need less to say I didn't bother as no way am i prepared to send such personal information when they already have my details on record for numerous vehicles registered in my name.

That seems odd. The fact that the information is only sent to the registered keepers address and signed by your self, that could be matched up with your name, home address and signature on the photocard of your driving licence they hold on file. hhmm, never had that happen before...

I once tried to get information on who owns my dads customised morris minor as i would love to know if its still about or been scrapped (it was my childhood). I sent the form away saying that i had cleared my dads garage out and came acorss a lot of photos, detailed information on the parts used on the car and some other history that the current owner may find informative. I got a reply back saying they wouldnt tell me but they would forward a letter on to the current owner. So i sent a letter to them and they sent one back saying they had forwarded it to the current owner but i have heard nothing back from the owner, !. I wish i knew someone inside the DVLA.

I've always wanted to do this for my Fiesta as it says it was imported. See who imporeted it as i suspect it was a hire car. Also my Sierra to find out how on earth it was reg'd in Scotland but i brought it from Essex, if it moved down in one move or if it worked it's way down the country.
Did u phone them and ask for the Form?

Post office should have the forms too.
My fiesta was Kent registered, I bought it from Anglesey. I moved it to Newcastle, then Somerset. Before I owned it, it was in London, Brighton, Glasgow, Liverpool, Northampton and Manchester. Dirty stop out!

I requested all the previous owners of my black 69 Fury and they sent back a wadge of stuff like printouts of the microfilms of old V5s I think, I just glanced at it and filed it away, just nice to have. Not sure if you'd have any luck asking about a car that isn't registered to you though.
Theres a current GU11 ___ numberplate I'd really like to buy , seems to be on a Toyota Verso. Might ring the Toyota dealers in the area to see if I can find who sold it and if they'd put me in touch with owner.
