ive finally managed to get into the yard of one of the local old boys. to say hes got some stuff is an understatement. hes 82 and has started selling some stuff off for his retirement fund. unfortuntely he knows what its worth, sonone of its that cheap, but nearly all of it is ridiculously rare. here some pics he let me take, with prices. moskovitch pickup. £1200. moskovitch van. £1200 skoda van. this thing looks pretty awesome. 1k. a daf. think he said 500 notes for this. trabants. you can have two for a grand, a saloon and an estate. I think ones got a buggered engine though. wartburg knight (s) hes got two. ones 800 and ones 500. I think this is the 500 quid one. hes also got this really cool looking polish thing- a syrena 105 apparently? its in a lot better nick than the rest, not far off the road really. I was quite taken with it, especially at 1500 quid. he recons its the only one in the country. theres an nsu prinz under this lot. don't ask about the bikes, he wont sell a single one. its not just eastern bloc stuff though. hes got a p1800 or 6. they're all pretty rough mind. this velox was last on the road 4 years ago after a partial restoration. I recon it would MOT with little or no work. awesome patina on it too. seems good for £2.5k. this standard ensign has a very good number plate on it. thinknig about it myself at 1500 quid just cos of the plate! my other pick of the bunch would probably be this squire for 1500 quid. this is probly less than half what he had. hes a bit cagy about selling some of the rest though and seeing as its taken me so long to get in there i didnt want to scare him off by being too pushy, and he didnt want me taking too many 'general' pics that werent directly of cars cos he didnt want people figuring out where he was and coming sniffing round. Ive got to go back soon to sort out dragging this out though- see what more I can get out of him then.........

Wow! Great find. He must have had some passion for Eastern Bloc cars to have collected those together. Syrena is fab. The Skoda Van is an Octavia I think? You're not going to come across anotehr Moskvitch pick up in a hurry either...

I like the look of that Moscovitch van, that would make a neat ride.

ZOMG!! That's a pretty awesome find and well done for getting in there and getting this stuff advertised. That Skoda Van would be my pick (other than the trucks, but that's a different story) ...here's hoping some massive eastern-bloc perv Nige will get them sorted & back on the road. ^^Fixed it for you^^ I think he needs a call to the front desk....

Pricings just too high for me.
I bought a nice 60's Wartie Estate (at a Belgium auction 4 months back) for 230 euros, having turned down a stored north London one, ready top go, for around £1k. My UK Moskvitch 412 saloon, in reasonable nick cost me £500 & my (sadly deceased in the barn fire) 408 cost less than £400.
So -yes please- but not at those prices.

Fantastic find, and it's a shame the Trabi estate looks so knackered - the prices really are "he has a vague idea what they were worth before several years of decay kicked in", though. You can easily resolve that Syrena being the only one in the country by popping over the channel - absolute minters from dealers rarely appear to crack €3K.
Nevetheless, the value of money is a mutable thing - hopefully it will be worth it for some people to save these, particularly the Moskvitch van, NSU and Velox.

Wow! Why are you dragging out the Commer, have you bought it?
I am always amazed stuff like this keeps turning up, and nice to know he will sell some of it rather than letting it waste away.

nearly there: ford f250 tathauler, suzuki alto, u11 bluey
not for a while: ford pop, 32 rails,

Hehe, it's funny..faced with that selection the one I'd have been cooing over most would have been the Commer for sure. Just one of my favourite ever old trucks, for both the styling and that awesome sound. You done good! That Mosky pickup has a heap of potential too. There were a couple of varients of that around these parts. There was an estate sat in a garden not far from until a little while back but it's disapeared not long ago, most likely to the scrappers as it was rotted as a pear. There was alo a van in Windleys scrappy...again pretty rotten...

A mate of mine is after a Prinz. Needs to be the sort with square headlights not the one with round headlights. Any ideas on year/spec/type of that one and a price?
The photo of the Squire embedded in leaves with the Somerset alongside is familiar, although from a different angle so I think that someone has been here with a camera before.
When I was a kid we had a bread and egg delivery man come round in a pale blue Moskvich van like that.
The Ensign is tempting. I always liked them and you just don't see them now.

Ultimately I want to get a sky-blue Combi, and have a picnic basket in the back with Sleeman's pickles and other such things.

This is an amazing haul, I really hope this stuff gets saved. The pair of Moskies are certainly the only van and pick-up left over here. The Syrena isn't the only one in the UK, but there might only be one other - a white one, it was featured in Craptical Plastics mag several years ago and was/is probably in the hands of Julian Nowill. A mate of mine is after a Prinz. Needs to be the sort with square headlights not the one with round headlights. Any ideas on year/spec/type of that one and a price? From what I can see in that pic (which admittedly isn't much) that looks like a boggo Prinz 4, like this. It's definitely not one of the later 1200s which I guess is what your mate wants ( this one )

Somebody find me a Watling. £££ waiting! (Seriously, I want a Watling. Help me plzzzzz)

^^ I've bought some ^^ ...but I think I need to buy some more. You can get some money towards your van and I will have even less money than I already (don't) have so can't be tempted to buy an old van myself. There is a logic in there somewhere and your stuff is cool. I want another pic to go with the last one I bought.....get on it Dude.
