TJ Lavin's 51 Ford Shoebox by Divine 1 Customs^omg I linked that to their website but it's the worst site i've seen for a while, maybe check out their facebook instead? So anyway, this is at SEMA, you'll probably see more of it elsewhere. If it were mine I may change a thing or two (the paint actually annoys me), in fact the whole theme thing is all getting little clicheeed to me - but it's still hella coo.

I quite like what they've done with the front chrome, it's rather neat, but I'm struggling to like the rest.

I really like the front end treatment and the wheels, the colour is pretty good too, but the roofline just doesn't look right to me. Is the roof that raked unchopped on these?

no it's not, the roofline bugs me too. Here is a nice example of what it should look like (eric clapton's 49):

thats gotta be the ugliest shoebox chop ive seen for a while, and cutting a big hole in it don't make it any less worse.
the whole military theme really don't work that well on a 50s custom body style either. i see why its popular on hot rods, but customs?
the lack of rear bumper also irks me. mind you, it looks like the fronts doing its best to fall off to match the rear anyway........

Is the roof that raked unchopped on these? they're one of those cars that really suffers from being over-chopped at the hands of enthusiastic amateurs/shops who should know better. there seems to be some misguided idea going round that more chopped=better, which simply isnt the case. just google 'chopped shoebox' and see what I mean, most have the hokey reverse rake roof you describe going on. this on the other hand, is the first google image hit for chopped shoebox- its still quite whacked, but only a little restraint has given a MUCH nicer finished product.

Very cool otherwise, but the proportions of the chop is so off it ruins the whole car. If you're going for that long sleek look this is how it should look - I also think these are too small to pull off the ultra chopped look, they needs sectioning to even out the proportions, and then you're left with a car a normal sized guy won't fit in ;D Searching for pics of a perfect one I found this, which rates quite high on the awesome scale. gallery here

I remember Seth posted a purple, unchopped but sectioned one a while ago that looked absolutely spot-on. I'll see if I can find it again. I like these shots: ;D

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Just my opinion, but all the cars from the 40's chopped into sleds needs the B pillar to be angled forward to make the chop work and the lines flow. Deleting it makes the window opening awkward and just chopping it shorter kills the sweep.
That metallic green '49 is just where everything should be...100%!!
If the first one was mine, I would paint it all matt black, that would hide the awkward chop and look mean as hell as I really like what they have done with the rest of it....
