Some of those are cool ;D - this is in a kind of similar vein, I think?

It's a Callaway C4 - the 'Sledgehammer' - "Just" a 5.7 litre, 2 valve per cylinder, pushrod operated V8 with two turbochargers - 254.7mph in 1988. Amazing!

To put it into perspective, the Veyron does 253.81mph (but is limited by tyres). That has 8 litres, 16 cylinders, 64 valves and 4 turbochargers :P

Street legal and reputedly "easy" to drive (as much as something with that potential can be).

And some of the less obscene dealer models :P

"pushrod operated V8 with two turbochargers - 254.7mph in 1988. " ... why are they not listed as the fastest production car then? (not disputing just wondering?) not high enough production numbers or something?

Yea, they only built one Sledgehammer - not a production car - the 'normal' TT Callaways you could buy from the dealerships were capable of around 185mph IIRC :)

Reputedly Callaway did offer to make more - but at the eye-watering cost of 400,000USD ;D

I think you have to build 100 models to have it classified as 'production'? Not sure - but something like that..
