Very  . I do like Isabellas! At one time there were three in Aldershot where I live! I only see one regularly now and it's actually an estate that lives in my road! Very high spec cars for the time with all round independent coil spring supension, four speed all syncro 'box and OHC engine. The BMW of the 1950s. |

Rare? I've been talking to a guy from the club (whose Combi we were admiring at Enfield) and he reckons there's perhaps half a dozen in the country. I've never bought a car in such a state so its going to be interesting and I really must finish the Oxford before I crack on with this. One of those buying opportunities not to be missed though. It was a complete car until a few years ago when the current owner tore it apart and started the resto work. He braced the door openings before chopping stuff out so it should all be good and has done a good job of repairing quite a bit of the structural stuff. He also found and broke a rotten saloon, keeping absolutely everything that might be useful including the entire rear floor section. So there's virtually two cars worth of parts. The saloon was a TS as well so it had the higher spec engine. Ultimate plan is going to involve it remaining reasonably standard as I don't think I could afford to loose the value it'll have by cutting it about. Could do some visuals though, maybe purple primer and chrome reverse rims while it waits for paint  The suspension would be very easy to airbag without mucking it up Stud pattern is Mercedes 5 x 112 as far as I can tell. Current plan is to go and get all the parts in a couple of weeks and then trailer the shell down on a seperate trip soon after. I know where I can get a trailer from so just trying to find a tow car - I'd tow it behind the Minx if it had a 1725 in it but the 1500 would struggle. Some more photos...  Rear arch areas are the worst but wasy to get to because the wings all unbolt and the shapes are very easy - no major compound curves to speak of.  Dash is mega cool and made out of some sort of plastic  Here's the spare front and rear ends (independant rear suspension by swing axle and trailing arm) The bumpers are pretty bad but new stainless steel ones are available.  More wings  Saloon floor, and TUV (or whatever) marked tow bar   The floor has all been cut out but included are complete new floor panels - its basically a corrugated sheet fitted from underneath.  All important tailgate is actually not too bad.  I've checked the DVLA database for the number (Borgward is not on is drop down list ;D ) and it was last on the road in 1979  Have another "finished" photo if anyone fancies photo-shopping   |

Very . I do like Isabellas! At one time there were three in Aldershot where I live! I only see one regularly now and it's actually an estate that lives in my road! That would be the guy from the club I've been talking to then as he said he lived down that way Engines aren't OHC. They do have that look about them though. The inlet manifold is actually inside the rocker cover with the carb bolted on top. Cylinder head is aluminium though.  |

The dash is bakelite aint it? Can't remember properly. Looked at a saloon in Stanmore many moons ago.

That's pretty mad. Although it's obviously totally in pieces, from the pictures a lot of the metal doesn't actually look that far gone though? Is it any worse than the Oxford (apart from it being in bits, obviously).

I thought he must be a club member or something as he has another one as well that looks like a saloon but is slightly different at the rear from other saloons. He seems to use the estate as his daily driver! The shape of the engines always made me think they were OHC. Very strange having the inlet ports on top of the head....bit like the the aircooled VW engines that have the exhaust ports at the sides! |

Although it's obviously totally in pieces, from the pictures a lot of the metal doesn't actually look that far gone though? Is it any worse than the Oxford (apart from it being in bits, obviously). The bloke selling it has done a bunch of work already, replacing sill sections, repairing bulkhead, rear supension mounts etc. so a good basis to work from. The shell probably needs less fiddly welding than the Oxford but the bolt on panels will all need something doing, even if not much on some of them, and the wing shapes are quite complex in places. But at least they can be done off the car. How cool is that! Towcar available if needed Seth...
