I blame Mystery Machine and RobinXR4i for this, as this was the topic of a somewhat heated and shouty discussion on Sunday afternoon on the SW Division stand. TSW Venoms, what do you lot make of them. Quite frankly I think the were and still are very much in the category of 'poop' but with the correct application I'm happy to be shown otherwise. For that matter, what about the other wheels, the three spokes, Momo Arrows, the Stealths, the Honkenheims, basically all the wheels of the 90's. Most were, well, toss in my eyes. But again, I was to be proved wrong, show me that they're great if you can, convince a non believer..... Here, have some pictures. So, discuss.... Chris

They are about to go full circle - I'm sure slot mags did this. Got mega popular, people hated them, then they became retro and people wanted them because they define a style.
When mid-90s style becomes cool, they will too. And three spokes! I'd happily run either of them on my Lupo!

Ive only seen one car I like venoms on and that was when they were painted black, on a low mk3 cavalier v6 in metallic green. Admittedly they looked 'ok' then rather than 'hmmmmm'. Momo arrows rock though! especially in 5 stud flavour where the studs get hidden by the wheel design, tend to suit older BMWs and I have a real soft spot for TSW blades! haha!

Horrible hatefull wheels imo,i've yet to see them on something that wouldn't look better with a different set of wheels. As said, they stick out way too far. I really dislike momo arrows too. Negative i know, but a direct opinion was asked....

Agreed! Venoms where total cak. Every boy blunder (most without a clue)stuck em on his car just because it was "the thing to do" and the result was usually a total eyesore. However for some odd reason, they do suit Mk1 Vectra saloon's & Mk3 cav saloon. Gotta be low with GSi bit's on too
3 spokes where always a bad thing, especially when many peeps just bought the rims and ran em in their cars original narrow 13 or 14"" form..
TSW stealth's and Momo arrows are bad too. Cheap looking..
The original flat faced 7 spoke TSW Evo's are very cool and often give a car a bit of a motorsport look. Look good in White. I have a set of 7x15's.
I quite liked Hokenheims on the right car. 7x15 ones do look very good on Mk1 Escorts. There was a blue/blue Mk1 RS2000 replica on the scene many years ago with em & it looked the nuts. CF featured it. Also the YB turbo'd Mk1 with the big revo's, bubble arches and Castrol colours initially arrived in the hands of it's builder as a plain white Mex bodied car on 7x15 Hock's & looked the tit's! These aside, modern rims usually don't suit old Escorts..
Hock's suit 205GTi's well.
The problem with wheels is that a lot of people buy em because they think "ooooh, they look good" in the brochure or in the shop without actually visulizing weather they'll actually suit the car. Some rims may look good on one car but sooooo wrong on another
GOOD SUBJECT THIS!!!!! ;D

Can't say Venoms float my boat at all, but I'm thinking if they were painted bright lime green or luminous orange (possibly with a black outer rim) and had a smoothed, Euro'd Mk1 Vectra planted very much over them, so it's scraping the floor, they could look very cool.
I'm inclined to think that it's slightly too soon for Venoms and the like to make a comeback, but it will come around eventually. Everything does.

venoms ive never liked, they always looked too busy for my liking, however the momo arrows i like, i think they are a subtle alternative to some stock and dull mid 90's factory alloys!!
as for 3 spokes, they look good on japanease cars (theres a specific brand that is slipping my mind at present) but on cars such as the corsa with the factory 3 spokes.....what were they thinking!

Venoms are a tough one, as a wheel design i cant stand them, but having recently seen them in black on a black 3series BMW, there is hope! It actualy looked realy good! I never liked 90's wheels in the 90's, or at any time up until recently, but with matt black and diamond cut referbing being popular, there are ways of making anything look good. Momo Arrows, as said, always look good on 5stud fitment, and seem to suit most big cars.
The only thing I don't want to see is a PT with 18in venoms. No sir.............

not a great fan of venoms - think I'm echoing what's already been said here but I don't think it's that bad looking (from certain angles - side on it bows out too much) more the fact it appeared on everything for a brief period. and TSW did make some good wheels - realy wanted a set of EVOs, but something happened in the design department in the mid 90's anyone remember the Cylix? not one their better designs either - google images only comes up with one pic of them which says it all realy....

Like most retro things, if you grew up with them, then you (usually) like them. I think Venoms are smart in an ironic 90's way. That Pug 205 on the other page looks fab I think. Try to think of them out of context, not on yet another Nova with a Novadose kit. Also, OZ 3 spokes look fantastic when rolling.

90's wheels rule!! Venom's, blades, evo's, Stealths, Hockenheim's anything TSW from that era, OZ super T's (originals obv) Fox 1,2,3,4,5 lol they were awesome. Momo Arrows, Ferrari's (the ones with the split 5 spokes with the red inserts) all look good on the right car. It is retro just 90's retro. examples that worked well from my recollection..... Pug 205 Gti's/XS in red on blades with a gutmann grill Fiesta XR2i in dark blue on 15" TSW stealths TSW imolas full of win Momo Ferrari wheels (look better when matching colour to body....) Xr4i on hockenheims
