I'm now in my final year of my Documentary Photography degree and have one major project to work on. I am photographing car enthusiasts with their car(s) within the space they spend time with them, whether it be cleaning, tinkering or modifying.
Lately in the photographic world, there have been several pieces of work which I think have exploited the subject and shown it in a negative light. My aim is to produce an intimate and detailed gaze into the realm of those involved with their cars. By democratically covering the widest geographical area possible I hope to create a comprehensive and compelling project, which holds intrigue for a wide audience. The project will be submitted on 11th February and then continued until June, with a few of the best images being shown publicly.
I have already started photographing some Retro Rides members in Cardiff but with this thread I'm planning to keep everyone up to date on my work and of course get more people involved. Ironically, I don't have a car at my disposal right now (However, that will change in January with something suitably old!) which means I'm happy to stick with public transport or get on-board the pony express! If you'd like to help out and be a part of the project then my only criteria are that you have a car and a space for it, whether it's a driveway or garage doesn't matter! Likewise, your car doesn't need to be anything in particular, so long as you take an active interest in it. After photographing you I'll send a nice A3 print as a thank you, and the whole process would only take about an hour of your evening. It's easy to get around South Wales and over to Bristol, so just drop me a PM! Once it picks up more momentum I'll travel even further.
