Ok guys - I have been off the scene for a while - was running a Vdub caddy...back now just bought a PV544
What I want to know is - where do I lowering springs from? Spax???
What shocks do I get KYB???
Do Amazon ones fit?
They must be out there as peeps still rally these motors...anything you lot know would be good.
I am looking at hitting it with the lowering stick and putting a couple of carbs on it...so please give me the run down on what you all know about PV544s and where I can find more info and parts for them.
Cheers

If you delve deep into the readers rides you'll find a 544 project that will answer most of your questions. Easiest engine bet is a 2L and matching gearbox from a 140 series, can get them single/twin Stromberg or injected, ending should bolt right up, I imagine the gearbox should too.

I'll get pics as soon as I pick her up. Just waiting for the guy to MOT her and then have enough time to get and pick her up. If you wanna see a few piccies of PV's click here: www.vintageimportparts.com/customercars.htmI know I can cut the springs - but I assume you can get shorter progressive springs for them - being as guys race them. hence th equestion. If someone could point me to the readers rides thread I would be most grateful - I tried to use the search but never got any joy

Ok guys - I have been off the scene for a while - was running a Vdub caddy...back now just bought a PV544 What I want to know is - where do I lowering springs from? Spax??? I don't know TBH... I run Koni Classics on mine... No, looks completely different. Which engine do you have now? B16 or B18? I know a bit about PV544s since I've been building one for the last...ehrm, seven years soon. You can always give me some questions, here or via PM... Cutting the springs in rear is not an option since they are bolted in both ends (and besides, they are very soft in the rear). A solution I have my thoughts about is if it's possible to change the upper bracket to the 240 type, and use 240 estate rear springs, which are hard as rocks, and cut them to the proper length, but I haven't got that far yet... I don't know what will fit up front though, but at least you can cut those springs...

If someone could point me to the readers rides thread I would be most grateful - I tried to use the search but never got any joy Try using google to search, if you use the box at the bottom of the forum you can set it to search just Retro Rides - its not perfect but works better than the forum search

yeah, I clicked on this thread expecting to learn what a Volvo PV544 is, but nooo. Ditto! Funny. If you saw only the top left 1/4 of that above pic, most folks (including me) would guess early Beetle.

If they 240 springs are already hard as rocks cutting them will just make things worse.

Think you will get some help and info from www.vp-autoparts.com/main.aspx?page=articlelist&gid=1&gidlevel=0Though it's in swedish, but I believe yuo can translate it in a simple way. Shockabsorbers and springs will be found at: www.vp-autoparts.com/main.aspx?page=article&artno=1002060601If you already have a B18 motor, you should let someone pro boore it up tovents 2 litres and put a 3mm planarized top with 28/36mm vents or 46/38mm and finally an extractor outlet to a 2,5" exhaust. This is a formula I used in the 70:th and got a lot of Alfa Romeo's behind as well as other cars to. Don't put in a R-cam, but at K-cam. Better performance but good speed. Great fun. Don't just lover it too much in front. Bevare of the tires not toucking the fender when turning.

Perhaps a bit of reinforcing to the cross member to make sure those shocks won't poke through. An amazon cross member
