I posted about my Freecycle Viscount bike in another thread. This is the second bike I picked up but I haven't been able to take any pics because it lives at work. I took it home and gave it a polish at the weekend, so was able to take some snaps this morning. It's a 1966 Raleigh RSW 16, which was Raleigh's answer to the Moulton. It's a bit more basic than the Moulton, no suspension and has fat tyres instead. It's all-original except for the tyres which were originally white. It had some very crispy white tyres but they don't make them any more. Luckily it shares tyre size with the Chopper front wheel, so I didn't have to use a 2" wide BMX tyre which would have looked out of place. Dynamo front hub and working front and rear lights: Three Sturmey Archer gears on a twist grip: The hub is stamped 66 so it's got its original 1966 Sturmey Archer hub. I have no plans for modifying it at the moment. It's a proper rare museum piece and it would be a shame to cut it up. I'd like some white tyres as original so if some turn up on eBay then I might swap them. Could use some new rubber blocks in the pedals, otherwise it's all tickety boo.

A fine acquisition Jonny! Glad to hear it's not in for the chop, I'm sure you can tink of many cool things to do with it but as you say it's a nice collectable old Raleigh and they're brilliant little bikes as they are! Get down to your dustiest, crustiest old bike shop and check what's hanging from the ceiling, you'll find those white tyres lurking somewhere!

2 days ago, when walking top my aunts to collect my freecycle shogun mtb. I past a garage that had a RSW infront. Looked like they were tidying up. should have asked if the RSW was needed. I had a green RSW that was a similar model to yours. Heres it on the day I got it from the bike shop. It got burnt in the big fire I had in the yard.

ooooh can i join in?
I was reading this thread last night and whilst stumbling around the bootsale i spotted a familiar looking bike.
£10 secured me a lovely mk1 like yours johnny. Looks like its probably been sat 20 years in a shed but the chrome is good under the dust. It is still on its bald and perished white tyres and the hub identifies it as a 65'.
There is a guy selling a mint one on ebay who in the question section has someone asking if the wants some nos tyres for one but he says no. Maybe worth investigating if you are looking for some?

Hurrah!
I've got an RSW II, which I found in a hedge in St Earth. I pimped it up and now I ride it all over the place (well.... to the shops and back ect). I've been meaning to start a thread about it becasue it's well cool! 48 years old and it's still got good, original chrome. That fact alone, coupled with the fact it was found in a Cornish hedge where the life expectancy of an RSJ is about 3 hours - not bad bannanas.

Its amazing to find people talking about these great little bikes. I've got an early RSW16 which belonged to my mum. It's got those white Michelin balloon tyres which do look the part on a mid 1960's bike. I recently aquired a late RSW 111 made in 74 its interesting to compare build quality between the two bikes!
