I hope the plan involves binning the rear suspension! What is it with you and bobbers! As much as i enjoy the look.....it aint happening to either of the CX's mate. As for the plan, some discussion occured earlier on and it looks like it might be a go'err......but I'm not sure you peeps should know the details just yet ;D No actual progress made today I'm afraid, ive been busy pulling engines outta dead cars but hope to have sumat done on sunday. Make sure you give the rear swinging arm a good poke as they have habit of rotting (MOT fail). don't worry Paul, the one off this bike had alot of heavy surface rust but no holes so will make it go again until I find another, the 78's swingarm on the other had has been patched top&bottom so will need to cut the plates off and start again I made a very simple jig out of angle iron bolted to a thick (several layers) of chipboard. Attached the swinging arm, cut out the centre section that rots and welded in a piece of box section a similar size ;D Paul H

Nicely found Grizz, i'll be honest......either style would work and I'm now having difficulty working which one to go with for the "other" bike......... No progress today as ive been busy elsewhere but did get some primer and first coat of paint on the centre stand last night, I'm having probs finding the mojo for this stage of the project as I'm curse word when it comes to painting stuff but I'm trying to get a little bit done everyday or so just to keep it moving along. This one has been waiting long enough, i WILL have it back on the road before summer kicks off I promise i will get a pic of the paint when i go back out there Steve

But Nicola who is sooooo tollerant of me and my evil motorbike ways will cut my nuts out and feed the cats if I brought another thing with wheels home. Was very tempted by that £400 X9 500cc scooter in the for sale section..... think cammo green, netting and dummy rocket launcher on the side etc. This though makes my juices flow.

So much for daily updates There has been small amounts of progress on this, but its mostly just rubbing down bits and painting them. Started stripping the paint off the swingarm and found that in the couple of years since i painted it the first time its developed a few rust holes so have given it to mr B8D to weld up when he has the time. Also need to get the frame clearcoated before anything gets re-attached, and need to get the engine out from under its cover for a going over and a repaint Pics soon, i promise Steve

damn theres some nice bikes on here, what can you say, Id rather have an old bike over a new one anyday and the CX500 pretty much justifies why. Got myself a little project which is unfortunately up for sale due to finances (a 1982 Honda CM125) but I just love all old Hondas and those CX500s are one of my faves. Oh and can see why that red one keeps popping up, its gorgeous ;D

I'm liking this thread being and avid biker doing some 300 miles a week and the bmw bike i have seams to be failing faster than an old british bike or 1st gen J bike so to give you further ideas on the cx conversions here is a lot of dual sport or off road going cx bikes www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46633

here is the wrenchmonkees one i'll have the two on the right...;-) and the street tracker theme of rotating the engine I missed out on a cx to 'cafe' recently but not before I had scoured the net for potential... this standard looking, apart from looking at the suspension ,one was one of my faves but got an R80 airhead now instead..done my scouring so that is gonna get cafe'd treatment

I'm loving all these cool build pics you guys keep putting up, but all they seem to be doing is making my choices harder ;D It actually a really tough decision between cafe racer or dual-sport for the other bike, i really want the '80 to be a standard looking bike with an obvious difference from the norm that i will reveal when its been confirmed that it will work I had intended to get some more done on this over the weekend but saturday, had some tat to be delivered to Area52 and had to get some tyres put on to a pair of wheels for one of my "other" bikes and sunday i ended up over A52 again for most of the day And here's the bike in question that got all the attention this weekend: My Kawasaki GPz550 (the silver one )sat next to my old man's Kawasaki ZL600, the GPz has been sat in the garage for the last 3yrs but since the Viva is now off the road cos i cant afford to run it i decided to revive this for the summer as its bloody good fun and its cheap to run ;D CX progress will resume soon........... Steve
