Please forgive me i know there's already a Model Cars Thread but i didn't want this getting lost several Pages back in the thread
Way back when i was a Little girl in the 70,s no matter how many times my mum despaired and tried to get me playing with dolls i always threw tantrums until i got cars ;D
I had a Huge collection of Dinky and Matchbox cars and id be rich if i still had them now
Then on my 8th birthday in 1980 i discovered Models ;D
There was a toy shop chain up north called Zodiac Toys i think they got swallowed up by Toy and Hobby?
Anyway they were closing and selling off these Customised Ford Models so i pestered my mum for a set,a Cortina,a Zodiac, and a Capri
So my first taste at model making i made all three up no paint, glue everywhere on the windows but i was soo proud of my first attempt
I then Painted them after id glued them together the Zodiac i painted Gold, the Cortina Metallic Green and the Capri Sunset Red which was more like Metallic Pink but never bothered with the colourful transfers ;D
Anyways they got broke sometime in the mid 80,s and were thrown away it was only in the 90,s i realised how rare they were as they were actually supposed to be in the 1981 Airfix catalogue but then Airfix went bust and i believe Zodiac Toys bought most of the stock from the liquidators for Airfix
In 1997 i spotted a set of all three Models for Sale on an Internet collectors site and decided to bay them for old times sake
Everybody at the time said you cant make them its not right they are soo rare unmade but I'm a firm believer in old cars are supposed to be driven, old wine is supposed to be drunk and Models are supposed to be made
So i ignored all the advice and set out to make them properly and took my time gathering info on original ford colours and painted and detailed things how they would be on a real full size model Rather than using all the colours Airfix suggested
By 1998 the Zodiac and Cortina were finished and have sat in my Mums China Cabinet ever since ;D
However i lost interest and never Completed the Capri
It sat half finished in its box for 12 years until last weekend when we went up north to visit my parents and because the weather was lousey i went out bought some glue and finished it 12 years late ;D !!!
As a nod to the first ones i made soo badly at the tender age of 8 i painted the back axles in Gold(Zodiac) Metallic Green(Cortina) and Sunset Red (Capri)
And this time they were fully painted and had their Transfers Applied and Lacquered over
So i thought now they are completed as a set id share them with you and show off my Modeling Skills(not Bad For a girl huh ;D)
