Hi all, I've been following threads here for a while, and like many others I felt like I should introduce my own 'ride' It's the 4-door Deluxe model, painted in Aqua Blue; it was built in October 1963 in Dagenham and sold on April 15th 1964 at the Garage Gaume in Le Mans. When I bought it, it still had its original registration '468 HA 72', which is pretty rare for a car this old. Here are the first pics I took: I bought it March 24th this year, and it had been off the road since '95. I took it home on a tow truck (very expensive), it seems all it needed was new front shocks, new tires all round and other small stuff. The previous owner actually overhauled the brakes, the engine and the clutch but stopped the resto when he found a '66 1500GT that was ready to go. Most of the body is original, since it was apparently protected with used motor oil: ugly but efficient! Since then, I've driven around 2500 miles with it, including a ten-hour 350-mile trip, and another twelve-hour 430-mile one... No need to say I was deaf after both ;D It's pretty slow, with around 48bhp but only weighs 840kg and I never take the motorway anyway. Changing front shocks: On these pics you can see that the car was lowered, using a toolbox in the boot: The rear suspension is very sensitive to load, like when I had all my stuff in the car as I was moving from my apartment: Other pics: In its new home: I hope you like it, I don't intend to modify it, it's only original once... And there are not that many in France!

guigui> Faut obligatoirement modifier sa caisse ? Je suis sur forum-auto.com aussi, mais pour l'instant rien de très intéressant... jake> it'll stay that way I'll only try to protect it from rust, have the battery charging again etc. I fortunately have the Mk1 Cortina Owner's Club that sells many parts, not always exactly original but close enough!

Oooooooooooooooooooooh that's so cool! In Aqua Blue as well! I thought you had taken a picture of mine's interior before I saw that big button between the gauges... What's it for actually? I see you have some kind of switches near the glovebox, and I simply have a hole, I'd love to see what's supposed to be there. You say it's in bad condition but it doesn't look that bad really Pleaaaase keep the pictures coming, it's so sweet to see another one here. Are you keeping it original?

Fantastic and beautiful car!! I used to have an almost identical December 1963 Deluxe but in Tuscan yellow, it had a 1500 engine and was of course right hand drive - seeing your car brings the memories back and makes me wish I had kept it! Your wheel arches are amazingly clean too (I assume you removed the old engine oil from them which no doubt saved them!?). Glad to hear you are keeping it standard, hope you enjoy the car, it really is lovely!! Cheers J

I did clean them, and it took about an afternoon each I'll put wax in there to prevent rust from ever attacking! Please post pics of your yellow 'Tina if you have any, that'd be sweet! I never get to see any in France, I went to meetings with over one thousand cars and there wasn't even a fake Lotus one... Mine has two spots of rust: battery tray and right-hand lower rear corner. The former is neither visible nor structural, and the latter is available as a repair panel from the Cortina club

GREAT advert for the rust-inhibiting properties of old engine oil. That's a magnificent old thing, and much respect to you for keeping it how Terence Beckett intended.

Thanks for the kind words! Well mine is much less of a challenge that Thorsten's, given it runs really well and all that.
But I might be a challenge, given I don't know anything about mechanical work, and I don't know anyone that does. ;D I'll learn as I go, it's pretty much the reason why I first bought this car: it's not too bad so I won't give up, but it's not so good that I don't do anything on it... I'll post more pics soon (beginning next week i hope)

It's beautiful!!!! The color suits it very well, the paint is all shiny, the interior is immaculate... I'm ashamed of mine now ;D I have to ask, what was the use of the button the nearest to the glovebox? I only have a hole here, that's bugging me a little

Thanks it was a nice colour and fairly unusual on a Cortina I believe. It may have been shiney but don't feel it puts yours to shame - I love the colour and patina of yours, it seems to have an honest feel to it! And besides shiney paint often hides filler and things... As to the second knob on the dash, I think it was a cigar lighter but I don't recall now - it's a couple of years ago now since I sold her

Not really an update, just three pics of my wandering in the french countryside: I had to adjust the brakes for the MOT this afternoon, hope it'll pass! It was the only fault...

Hi all, I've been wondering for a while now. Not about the rust, of course, but about the wheel colour: right now it's a lame silver grey that's been sprayed by a previous owner. It looks like sh*t and it was badly done (there's some paint on the drum behind, so lame), so I want to repaint the wheels! Question is: satin black or body colour? That's a 1961 Falcon, and it looks quite like a Cortina but not quite, and the wheels look lovely. Not too manly but exotic and fun. On the other hand, I love the look of satin black wheels + dog dishes, but that would be a lot too muscley for such a slow car. Can't find decent picture but I like it a lot! So if someone somewhere would have the time to photoshop one of these pictures to give me an idea, I'd love it I have neither software nor skills to do it, unfortunately. Thanks for reading!

Black would NEED trim rings for the outer edge. Cream would look good.
