The Dolly has the 'powerful' 602cc engine, doesn't it? Make a lightweight chassis, fit the running gear, put a bucket seat on it = free track day car? I bet with an aerodynamic body you could reach a pretty good top speed, eventually.
edit - yeah, 35 horsepower. If you could get the weight down to 300-400kg, the performance would be reasonable. They weigh 550ish with a standard chassis, bodywork, glass etc - what do people reckon?

Vmax was pretty much 71mph with a long run-up.

Ok, as promised more photos! But first, thanks for all the advice/opinions/ideas. I'm still on the fence, I'd love to do something with all the metal thats ended up in my garage, so we'll see. Most will probably say scrap it now after this next proper set of photos. I managed to split the body from the chassis. There was only 1 bolt out of like 20 that wouldn't budge, thats pretty good going if you ask me. (nightmares of mini rear subframe etc.. ) So, it's pretty much confirmed now, the front of the chassis properly gave way, it was bad, and then the previous owners "manhandled" it into that lockup, it must have collapsed at this point, no steering, and such damage to it and the front of the body. I'll let the pictures do the talking. Pile of bits building up: Let's start with the chassis, this is what's left at the front: Look at the angle it's at compared to the under-body bit: And here's what it's generally like at the back, the towing eye came off in my hand: And this shows how the front of the chasis is actually on the deck now, suspension working well! Now for the situation at the front of the body, bracket for the master cylinder coming away from the bulkhead, not a big deal really. This is mess from inside: HMMMMM...So, the floor panels are no longer connected to the a panels/bulkhead, but the body still seems to have most of it's shape even though it's fully unbolted and free now. After lifting it off the the chassis this might change though. How about some better quality grot photos to make up for the phonepics: A quality battery tray repair: a piece of wood... WOODThe doors: Not really that bad. And the back of the car is actually pretty damn good surprisingly: and this is the only non-original hole in the boot: Finally, on a cheery note, check out the ICE:

Woop! sounds like if you do anything to this it will improve it On a serious note, looking at that, I'd seriously have no idea where to start! Do you buy a galvanised chassis and just see what bits you have that can be made serviceable? I'd certainly be on the lookout for scrapyard 2cv's that maybe have crash damage and just buy the whole thing to have some more less rusty parts lol!

Yes.
The chassis can wait for now!
I guess the idea is crack on, see what happens, it can only really get better (it will of course get much worse).

some of the car is not to my taste, but its build thread just made me go WOW it starts as a simple ladder chassis build and then it goes so far leftfield that it has to be built by a frenchman ;D can't wait to see the finished article - both his and yours

That going to be a lot of work but what better way to improve your welding and fabrication skills and it's the perfect project for some custom bodywork

Whilst that is beyond saving in the opinion of many in addition to scaring off many a restorer I would be tempted to make a custom chassis to it (assuming there are some workable bits off the original chassis!) and turn the car into something special. Whilst I would not underestimate the challenge ahead, it is also the ideal opportunity to get your metal skills sharpened up .

Yeah I'm surprised at the low top speed, stock ones with the 602 engine could hit 70 on a good day. If the fastest human-powered vehicle can hit 80mph, I'm sure a 2CV engine could propel itself to well over a ton even with a homebrew body.
Worlds fastest 2CV would be an awesome project to take on.
