This is the second Renault 5 I owned, bought abouy six months after I regrettably sold my first one. I decided to make this based on a 'no f**ks given' attitude, and made myself a goal to make it five (ha) times better than the first.
Many may recognise it from being at Retro Show last July at Santa Pod. It is now scrapped as it wore itself away and was riddled with rust and other problems. One day, I may make another.
April 2012
An advert was discovered on Auto Trader for a Renault 5 Campus Prima, exactly the same model as my last 5.
A steady journey to view the 'amazing condition for age' car turned into quite a story to tell... The gentleman, (dealer) selling the car was quite the oddball. But that was nothing compared to the condition of the car - absolutely horrific! We offered the dealer a fraction of what he was asking, in cash, then and there.
No joke, I thought he was going to start crying, adding in a sob story of how he hasn't made any money on the car. It was a hunk of junk in desperate need of any attention.
I proceded to fill out the paperwork, handed over the cash, and drove the shed home.
I began by checking the whole car over. First, I got the rotten sill welded up, sorted the wiring (enabling me to fit a sound system and 12v socket), 'fixed' the broken heater dials and washed/hoovered the whole thing.
Like the previous 5, I ripped off the huge bump strips as I was never a fan. Nice surprise underneath...
Started to order bits - motorbike exhaust can, standard GT Turbo springs, and wheels!
Opted to go for wide steels this time. I'd gone down the alloy road with the previous car with the ATS Classics. I wanted something different this time.
