I'd like to introduce myself: my name is Berend Doedens, I'm from holland and sort of an old car freak. I own a 1980 Volkswagen Derby, originally a 1100cc engine was in it but I replaced it for a 1300cc The Derby is currently in the garage for it's winter sleep and I'm driving an 89 volkswagen polo as a daily drive. also a 1300cc I have started the website www.trunksociety.com a few years ago and learned this site through one of our latest members.

I'm just cleaning it up
fixxed the trunk lid which was damaged while someone tried to break in. Found a perfect lid in the right colour. I think I''ll fit another interior which is like new (is laying in the garage) and fit the sparco seats (now fitted) in the polo. the engine will get an motorbike-carburettor setup because the original half electric carb sucks.
that will be it for the coming season...
current setup is: MH engine 55bhp (polo mk2) 4-speed transmission (from polo mk2) SPAX suspension 4cm's lowered alleycat magnesium wheels 5,5x13 (not on the picture) sparco sprint bucket seats Nardi steering wheel polo mk2 cockpit with revcounter Golfball gearknob polo mk1 GT front spoiler front lower stabilizer
setup of the polo: Polo mk3 G40 seats Golf mk1 LS Steering wheel MH engine 55 Bhp (original) 4 speed transmission (original) 4 cm lowered suspension (cheap ebay set but good roadholding) polo mk3 aluminum BBS wheels Firestone low profile tires 175/60/13 front grille with extra-lights (must have on dark roads) rear stabilizer lots of parts removed for weight reduction

just had a little accident with the polo, hit an '05 polo from the back..
luckily there wasn't too much damage, but It'll cost some money I fear...
mina had just a slightly twisted front bumper which is allready straight again, which idiot made up the idea of spraying bumpers. Did he forgot what those thing are made for??

Hi Berendd, Welcome along to Retro-Rides, nice to see you here! We like Polos & Derbys on this board...... in fact we like anything thats old and cool! Hope you stick around & enjoy yourself Just thinking we must have at least 4 or 5 Mk1 Derby owners on this board now - not to mention all those owning Mk2 Polo saloons Obviously the colour of yours is the best Derby colour By the way, what are the wheels in the last picture, they look abit like Renault Espace or Northalle [SP?] wheels? Sorry to hear about your little accident - sounds like your Polo is ok - though sounds like repairs to the newer Polo could be expensive You are right, whats a bumper for, if it costs a fortune to replace it or respray it the body colour?

You should've heard the noise.. I had covered the stud on the front pipe meant to lead exhaust gasses to the inlet with a cap, but that had come off... so now I decided it had to be welded shut. the welding went ok, but unfortunately all the taps in the exhaust manifold where damaged... (who designs such a silly contruction anyway...) so loud noises still... but hopefully I'll fix that after tuesday, first some examinations to do.. (fysical flow science (navier-stokes) :side: and construction design :S)
