Kadett C City (sh1tty) hatch 1.2 ohv bought in 98 for £20( ) as a spares or repair.pretty solid shell - was full of zeibart - inner wings were ok , chassis rails spot on , floor pretty good.
real problem areas were the front panel which was really really bad so I sourced a complete panel through the now defunct 'opel group' owners club. think I paid £70 for it.
july 2000
and afterwards...
the passenger a post wasn't the best so managed to find a repair panel...
it had the wrong wings fitted so I bought a pair of pattern ones ( those were the days) and stuck them on.£25 each I think
also needed a tailgate so found a decent chevette in a Hexham scrapyard . got a decent door off the same car if I remember rightly..door + tailgate £10 each
then cos I bought a house which needed much more work doing to it than the kadett it kind of sat outside in the back yard for a year or 3 looking very neglected..
so in january 2004 I gave myself a kick up the hoop and work started again..
gearbox out and reconditioned
clutch, starter + rear crank seal waiting to go in..
and er that was it for another year..
so early 2005 I stripped all the suspension , sourced some lower springs and cracked on again..
new and old spring
suspension all replaced , new springs , new axle ( a brand new chevette one bought from speedy spares in brighton. £75 )
while the trailing arms + panhard rod were off I got them powder coated black then replaced all the bushes with superflex ones (curse word phone pic )
new axle , all brake lines and cables replaced , and an ashley exhaust fitted
had a few probs trying to source the master cylinder cos at the time I didn't have a pc so german ebay was years away for me...eventually tracked a LHD cylinder down in Birmingham . had to block a port off and bend the pipes round a bit but it does the job..
had to put the old halfshafts into the new axle so replaced the bearings at the time. also had the brake back plates powdercoated , replaced the shoes, cylinders +drums while I was on..similar story on the front , new calipers, discs, bearings + stainless flexi's fitted..
so fast forward to last summer..i finally got round to replacing the outer sills, arches + rear lower quarters..
the front panel had the odd bit of surface rust on it so I had a bash at that
had a set of 13" ,4 spoke revo's kicking around for years so gradually got them powdercoated and fitted them on but was never happy with the gap between the tyre + the arch
so I got a set of 14" manta rims and it filled it a bit better..
but it still didn't look 'right' so ive got a set of 15's which are a bit modern and have no dish whatsoever but do fill the arch better again
I still havn't given up on the revo's cos they are a cool wheel so I got meself a set of 75mm springs off german ebay so i'll fit them and see where we are ;D. the firm I got them off do recommend fitting shortened shox too so if I have to go down that route I will cos I do like em looow
as far as the interior goes it's a bit of a non-event at the minute..i fitted a chevette dash including hs dials and i'll be after a better steering wheel
oh and i'm gonna get the headlining replaced with a black one. did the same in the firenza and it looks much better than white
got these waiting to go in . just need to get the rear seat recovered to match. got a nice black carpet and black door cards to go in too
and I took these today (sunny newcastle and all that... )
the passenger wing needs pulling in a bit..
and the ashley back box really needs replacing with a neater , smaller stainless steel one I think cos it ain't the most attractive thing i've ever seen
and I think i'm kind of up to date
jobs to do
find a better bonnet
back box
pull wing in
fit alarm + immob with CDL
remove all locks
fit solenoid on tailgate
generally get it ready for paint
sort suspension
fit seats
recover rear seat
replace headlining
fit new mirrors and bumpers
then give keys to mrs coggers cos she's going to be driving it down the the show in august , following me in the firenza ;D
and this is kinda the look i'm after - but with some shiny paint and chrome bumpers
or something like this (thanks odin _ penski)
6 months to get it finished - it will be done...
probably
