well at long last I got my first retro, infact my first car. here are some piccies. only a couple, I have a story to tell
the retro carpet in the boot
its a 1298, bravo 2, only made in 1982 so I'm guessing there arent many around now.
bought it for 450, with mot till may next year. no tax however. so had to wait a few days for the 1100's worth of insurance to come through and get 6 months.
as soon as I got th tax the girlfriend took me to get the car.
I was so excited, it drives stupidly well, has 61000 miles on the clock. the handling on these little cars is absolutely superb, you can throw em round corners and they don't even squeal ;D
so off to lancashire I went as swmbo had to take the car to a garage cos it kept cutting out, turns out the carb needed re setting.
drove it around 100 miles on first day, across some crazy roads because snake pass was closed for resurfacing. all was well.
however the first problem was upon us by the next morning.
great stuff.
the best thing about this was as I left my house I picked up my keys for my sheffield home, and we have a yale lock on the darwen home door, so it locks itself when shut, went to look at the car, had to find help to figure out how to jack it up cos I had never before seen one of these crazy jacks in my life, so the dad was called in before he started work. jacked it up, went back to the house to get a foot pump to temparily fix it before I go get a new tyre, realised I had the wrong keys, damn and blast. so I got a lift up to my aunties to get a spare key, and borrowed my dads foot pump,
got the tyre sorted at a bargain 22.50. also needed a rear brake bulb I should also mention I didnt use the spare tyre because my dad rounded the wheel brace off, so I just got a new tyre instead.
all was well for the rest of the day, filled the tank up when I found an asda, 93.9p
went to visit various family I hadnt seen for a while, on the way to pick swmbos car up got a call off the mum saying my car tunk of petrol when I set off from my grandads(who phoned my mum) oh dear, they got it up on the ramp at the garage to look, lo and behold a corroded and leaking fuel tank
it needs replacing, so that was the last drive I had of it, got a qoute 69+vat for a new tank and if all goes well with taking the current one off 50+vat for labour.
and I start work on monday, so swmbo is taking me to and from work this week, good job shes got a couple of weeks off. my car is booked in on wednesday, soonest they could get the tank in, and il be going back to get it on friday, which is when more pictures will arrive.
unfortunately because of this I now cant afford to do anything, have to borrow another fat wad of cash off the mum, retro rides show wont be happening for me, I simply cant afford it because I wont be getting paid till end of august.
so today has been a bit curse word really, but other than the tank the car runs perfect and is damn nippy.
sorry for the lengthy read
