Well as you all know, I think, my CA18DET Spitfire has been sold, collected and gone.
In the mean time I found a new project well two I guess, the Sapporo from chris and this...

Dirty, rusty and ready for improvement....

It's older than me, but it's very solid and has alot of history behind it.
These pictures need updating as work progressed a little this week with the removal of the engine box ect,
after much dicussion and a few bargin hunting an engine has been sourced from a fellow RR'er!

Just agreed a deal on this

With this

Oh and if you hadn't worked it out its one of these

I'll dig some picture up, but so far pannels identified to be replaced are the rear vallance, door skin bottoms, and front wings.

Things to look out for now are winning lottery tickets and a buyer for the sapporo in time.

Excellent! :D

I thought it best not to show that engine to my other half ;) My only concern was that the gear lever looks a long way back but then the engine is quite short so maybe it'll come out OK?

If you want really good, helpful advice on parts and teh like, Bill and Karen at Rarebits are top banana. :)

What's the chassis number on that by the way? H plate will put it in the last year of production of 1200 saloons.

Cheer's seth, Rarebit's, think I saw them at the TSSC a few year back.
I know Ro-Spit in America uses a 13B and the 12A is about 2" shorter so it should come out ok, else it will be another h/B relocation like the spitfire had. either way it WILL fit!

Chassis number, off the top of my head I'm not sure I'll check. Some Doctor had it for about 30 years, lots of work ect, and bonus only 51K on the clock with every MOT to prove it. I'm only the cars 3rd owner, not bad. The extensive recipts show alot of£ went into this example over time.

Nice one.

Remember "OLDONE" on this site can build, port and modify these rotaries to insane levels with his eyes closed.

Well, progress is slow I must admit. I feel a bit lost currently but apparently the decorating is nearly over for now so garage time will occour again soon.

Road trip last night with Sasky to collect the 12A, and now it’s time to browse this little lot

Good work on getting the 12A :)

What diff do you have in the herald atm? (Diff ratios can be amusing on the rotary if the gearing is set for a lower revving piston engine...)

Looks like a great project :D

Weekend, Progress, well some. My sister was up for the weekend but I still managed to strip the interior and glass from the herald and store it in the spare room.

No pictures of that as it got dark before I thought about it. The gearbox is resting in it’s new position and the tape measure is out, looking for good progress this week!

So to feel like I achieved something I re-covered the Dash. Not to everyones taste but I like it…

It was cold! so to make sure I progressed a little I did this to the coils, bracket will be painted body colour once I know what that colour will be…

Tonight will be further progress as the trailor should be down to collect the herald and engine then move to location No2 for fitting (I have no crane!)

Well, a small touch of progress or preparation I guess, sorry for the poor pictures,

My mate Tim came round and we loaded up the parts and car,

Bad picture I’m sorry. Anyway after getting the car off the trailor and inside we had a quick dig for some bolts and achieved this

Then we turned our attention to the destination

Thankfully Tim’s garage has a bit of space and some very useful tools

So there it will sit until sat morning when work will commence, and a quick picture of the camber after dragging the back of the car round…

Will be looking into that in time, hehe!

Well, a busy weekend. Lack of Sapporo sale results in doing what we can for no cost.
So an early start, a big jack and we get to this,

Only a little bit of camber when lifted, hehe!

Then hang the engine over the area,

It will be a squeeze, but we have fingers crossed and an angle grinder in out hand

Trim this

Trim that

Its going in . . .

Roughly in position, tape measure, level, and check again! Weld this up ….

Weld that . . . Getting there

That was easy (ish)

Not a bad fit, perhaps BL should of used this engine. That was Saturday, Sunday was a lot more disappointing,

The rad was fitted, exhaust manifold adjusted and them we turned the key.. well held a bit of wire on the battery, a flooded carb, lots of spark, compression but no bang bang..

Time to scratch the heads…

Gear leaver ended up where the H/brake would finish. so not too far back to use but the H/brake will need to be revised, hmm....
