just a hint /tip. get the van on axle stands and get underneath it , using a vaccuum cleaner with a 1" dia pipe extension , vaccuum out the inner to outer sill area , these have a bad habit of filling with road dust which turns to caked in mud when wet. i eneded up jet washing mine out , the inner sills have punched holes along them at intervals. you work it out how best to scrape and remove the crud , best done before waxoiling it . same also for the chassis boxing and the rear valance too.

Cheers for the tip. I have got outside today and fought the good fight. Pulled those wheel trims off and used some anti stonechip paint to freshen up the steelies. Anti stonechip paint FTW Although I'm only using rattlecans, the wind is blowing about gale force 8 and my top coat is not a bang on match, its better than leaving it to rot during the english summer rain There was a bit of rust developing on the roof seam/gutter (mostly round on the front corners) and on the front valance and on top of the roof itself . I have been over these today with a bit of sandpaper, some antirust, primer, topcoat and clear lacquer. At least you cant normally see the roof.... Pleasing result Not so pleasing but meh. [ Cant see this from the ground either I've had a good look underneath, the sills look solid though the paint has given up round the drain holes. It has been sprayed with thick black underseal, but it looks like the person who sprayed it stood ten feet away and spent about 17 seconds on the whole job. so basically there is quite a bit they missed, the bits still not undersealed are starting to rust so I need to spend a good weekend sorting that, when I get these slotmags I will do each wheel arch as I fit them aswell. I want to get the bonnet repainted, my mate owns a bodyshop.... www.bodybeautifulcarsltd.com/And I have asked him to do the bonnet before we go away for the summer, as well as some more serious repairs around the rear door hinges during next winter where the previous owner has bodged a bit of filler in (infact I may ask him to do all the hinge areas as it appears they are a weak spot as far as rust is concerned) The worst bit, bottom offside rear door hinge Cant see it from here. Bonnet rust, not too bad but I don't want to leave it too long and that touch up job looks just awful Engine bay after a bit of cleaning a bit of rust forward of the front wheels, I will sort this in time. Phew...... A bit more tidying, repaint the bumper skins and get a few dents out and I'll be happy with the outside.

you may well hate me now mike , i threw a perfect cf2 bonnet away last week as i couldnt even give it away. sorry. the scabs around the hinges are due to bedford not spraying under the hinges , they assmbled the van doors with hinges then primered and top coated. don't forget these vans are comercials after all. the hinges are a real pain in the to remove , the screws were torqued up in the factory and are a serious item to remove. ive tried using an air impact wrench with the correct phillips head , shattered the phillips head , ive heated the screw up with a blow torch , no good . eneded up tig welding a bolt to the screw head , the intense heat from welding released the thread. not a good way cause the screw is totally cabbaged after. the rust in the engine bay , don't leave it as the cause of the rust is drain water from the windscreen leaking over the inner lip and gathering on the flat panel , this is common , it then drains into the lower section which is an added on chassis section from bedford when they converted the cf1 chassis to cf2. wire brush it all off and treat it . otherwise you will end up having to replace the complete section of chassis. the windscreen wipers always leak from the rubbers under the bolts on the windscreen wiper stems , keep an eye on this as it leaks through , drips down the inside of the front bulkhead , runs downwards under the carpets and gathers where the floorgoes frrom sloped to flat in line with the `b' posts. then rots though. have a look at mine on my build thread. Oh did i say ` I LOVE BEDFORDS' . would'nt change my van for anything else. the driving positions ubber cool , slumped over the steering wheel , waves and grins from everybody old enough to appreciate them .

Cheers Aqua Genius (what is your real name?) I'll get onto those panels soon, I have given them a liberal dose of oil for now. I noticed the other day after it was parked in the rain facing uphill, there were big pools of water on those panels, when I parked it downhill in the rain water gathered in the footwells on the rubber mats. (I'm parking on the level from now on, heheh) Just went for a little run to try out the grill and hob, parked up near the river at a quiet spot. Lets just say it works but I wouldn't want to cook a meal for 6 on it, it took about half an hour to grill four sausages but it will do for the odd bit of toast, I think we will be taking our weber anyways. Some pics of the interior. Oh yeah!!

Get yourself over here: www.bedfordcf.co.uk/main.htmThere's some very knowledgeable people there now (Ade included!) who can tell you anything you will ever need to know about CFs. Top van, I see you have the heavy duty flat wheels. Get some copper grease on the studs ASAP as the nuts seize for a pastime and then the studs shear off when you try to undo them.

I'm already registered over there, its a useful site but bit low on activity for my liking, I guess there aren't that many bedford nutters around. re : wheel nuts Is that so? I am getting some slots in a week or two so the steels will be coming off.
