Hi all, first car I've posted on here. Been very much a Rover Man and Metro GTIs and Turbos have always been my thing. Anyway this is my new toy, and very happy I am with her too. She is a 1990 G plate Metro GTI. This car was registered the month the Rover Metro was released and so must be one of the very earliest left on the road. Also she has had just one owner from new, a genuine 55k miles, full Rover history and one years MOT. Plus she is one of the cleanest and brightest red Metros I've seen. Think I've done quite well In the pics she is standard. I did'nt want to mess with her too much but you know how it is, one you get thinking and planning there is no stopping. So far she has just been treated to a Piper Cross Induction kit and new exhaust. I did'nt want a chavvy big bore Saxo exhaust so I got the talented guys at Powerspeed Exhausts to custom make me one www.powerspeed.co.uk . The exhaust (not in these pics) looks standardish as it is little bigger and comes out at the same angle but is a de-cat stainless from manifold back and gives the car a crisp sound on tickover and a nice rasp as a nail her, without sounding like a Corsa with a drilled box - so I'm well happy. Next plan, well she is being slammed on Thursday, so I'll post some new pics then and you can see the zorst (and play spot the difference). Then who knows, I'm supposed to be saving for a house but then the letters 'VVC' keep popping into my head.... Oh and BTW she will be at BubMania/Oldskool Mania in Shropshire beginning of June if anyones going....

Loving this, can't believe how unrusty it looks- my Metro GTI was six years old when I had it and was falling to bits! Brilliant little cars though, enjoy!!

Wow! That's gotta be cleanest GTi I've ever seen, the one I sold a couple of months ago had be welded up so often it became a hobby! All I have to say is PLEASE UNDERSEAL IT NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE! Is it an SPI or MPI?

She is an SPI. The passenger side door and rear quarter has had some paint in the past and starting to rust through just below the B pillar. Small blister on one sill and at base of door. Other than that she is spot on. Luckily arches are fine and she has been garage kept all her like. Doing that bodywork should sort her a treat - will do the underseal too !

Well just trecked from Maidstone to Birmingham got her lowered and individualised, and then trecked back - so sorry she is a bit dirty! Looks good I think - could have gone lower but I have 3 speed bumps I have to pass to leave my estate so had to be a bit sensible! Can see my new zorst too Had fun on the way back, the oxygen temp senor came unattached which meant she would'nt drive under 3k rpm without conking out. Plus the clutch is on its way out and judders like a curse word. This happened in stop-start rush out traffic on the motorway. Made interesting driving before I could reach the services Looks good here - Rear shot does not look much lower here - but it is

I've got a soft spot for these, they look spot on with these wheels and this one is spot on. I'd definitely waxoyl it after you've undersealed, these things like to rust everywhere, which I guess is why you never see them anymore.

Yeah, that and the fact you can break-in and drive away using a spoon. Just had an immobilisor fitted plus use a steering lock for good measure.

Been wondering for ages what to do with my rims. Being a wacky PCD and needing small wheels I'm not spoilt for choice. Anyway a mate suggested just painting the originals and maching off the front for a nice polished look. Well I had a spare set and sent them away. Its now been done and I could not be happier with the result..... New New next to original Half and half Love 'em - just need to sort out what to do about the centre caps...

This road test Gti was registered almost 3 months ahead of May launch in Feb 90 - but was sadly last on road in 2003

Late update.... Ive learnt how cars work! Well I had fun for most of the Summer up until about July when the thing started missfiring on the 4th cylinder. Anyway despite being a massive petrol head Ive always stayed away from doing anything mechanical and usually just throw my keys and cash at a mechanic. Ive always wanted to learn how to do things myself but wasnt brave enough Anyway I bought some new plugs and leads, then dizzy cap then coil pack but no good. The car would seem to run fine for a bit then start missing again. I'm guessing maybe a sticky valve. But now I had a taste for getting dirty under the bonnet and thought it was the ideal time to change my engine. Obviously a larger K-series was the way forward, preferably a VVC engine. After a few weeks of hunting I found a complete shed of a Metro for sale in Hull which was never going to pass the MOT due in 6 weeks. The car was rottern but has a ZR 160 lump with apparently 30k miles on it. It was as cheap as buying all the parts I needed on there own, plus I could see where everything went and I could sell off some other bits to reclaim so cash I also figure buying a hoist was better and more cost effective to renting. So bought a Hoist, some decent halfords tools and a haynes manual. How hard can it be? After a lot of swearing and hours head scratching out came the old engine.... Then frig all for about 6 months as I was busy in my new job, then winter came, then lacked any real mojo..... there it sat for 6 months.... Until the nice weather came Now I cant wait to get back on the road.... so out came the VVC... Fuel Pump needs changing as a higher pressure one is required for an MPI engine. Removing the rear subframe is grief so do what everyone else does cut a hole in the floor. Never used an angle grinder before but how hard can it be... Halfords Angle grinder £17.99 Scrape off all the curse word with a screw driver Grinded nice and thin then poked through with a screw driver Changed the cambelt, thanks to an excellent Utube vid it looked easy, my cambelt was bloody loose though when I took it off, not suprised when I removed the tentioner.... Lucky me I guess coz I was ragging that engine for 6 weeks New clutch then engine going in today or tomorrow (fingers crossed). Not bad for a bloke who 8 months ago had never changed spark plugs and has had zero help.... so far anyway

Nice going mate, I'm the same with mechanics, I do bits here and there but anything major goes to the garage but as you've proved it does pay off. I'll keep a look out for you in the not so distant future.
