At the start of 2006, I made a few little changes just to fix a few of the niggles I had. Firstly, I got rid of the sickly green inside and went for blue leds as well as a calibrated boost gauge. I also rebadged it in february 06 to make it look a little different. Sad at the time but worth it now I think Also found a rare set of volvo factory option 17" alloys on ebay. I only know of 6 sets in the uk to give you an idea on how rare. They change the look of the car quite well. At the end of may, purchased a few parts from overseas and fitted the clear lights and snowcap to the front end.

At the end of September, I took the car up to a friend in Blackpool for welding work and a few big upgrades. Fitted a better straighter exhaust manifold from a 1990 onwards car, better wastegate from ATP and a full 3" straight through exhaust system with vbands New one on the left New one on the right Purchased a set of Hova lights from Sweden. Cleans up the back end alot

In February 07, the car made it to a meet in oxford. On the way down, it was noticed that while under boost, lots of blue smoke was coming out the exhaust. It made it back (using 4 litres of oil to cover 240 miles) and it was time for a new engine. Too much boost on a unmanaged engine management system with skinny 9mm con rods. The car was fitted with a later 940 B230FK block with 13mm rods and oil squirters to cool the pistons. New Engine Cleaned up head Repainted Cover and sump New engine going in. Also found another set of polaris alloys that had just been refurbed. and the car was back of the road. and made it over the 200k mark

In December 07, the car took a trip to Power Dynamics in Uxbridge to see what sort of power outputs we were getting. 258Bhp at the crank with 280ft/lbs of torque at 23 psi on 95 fuel. On the drive down, the car seems to struggling at some points to get up and go. Once we arrived, Iain noticed that it was not idling on all 4 cylinders (James and myself thought that dodgy idle was due to the 630cc injectors that had recently been installed). Iain did a compression test and leak test on all the cylinders. Cylinder 1 : 150 Compression, 41% leak Cylinder 2 : 170 Compression, 30% (I think) leak Cylinder 3 : 150 Compression, 40 % leak Cylinder 4 : 190 Compression, No leak test. So, it seems that the rings are shot and from the tuning runs we did, it was down to the spark map being set too agressively off boost. On boost map was pretty much good. On the way home, the car decided to blow its head gasket and then one of the studs holding the turbo on decided to shear off. Time to do another engine swap which was completed in April 08. Another later b230fk block was fitted with a K cam (High end n/a cam from a volvo 240). Once this was all done, the car went back down to the dyno and fit a figure of 275Bhp on 95 fuel at 25psi. We found that one of the injectors was not running correctly through and one pot was running quite lean so we mapped the fuel to low 10's in order to save the engine for the moment. Also found that the diesel 940 clutch I was using was slipping at 25psi so time to order a 4 puck clutch up from clutchnet.

Engine pic at the end of 2007. and in the spring of 2008, the car made it to the national volvo meet. Over 2008, the car was mainly sat up as I was busy with work and struggling to deal with all its small niggles. but at the start of 2009, I made another start to get the car running again. New turbo, new clutch, new injectors and waterpump (I needed more room was purchased a volvo 300 series waterpump which are shorter) I also found a set of very very rare volvo rsport (think like the m division for bmw) seat covers which are fully padded and bolstered. I've also updated the door handles, mirrors and side trim for 960 items to go fully body coloured.

That's actually very spot-on for how we're doing them in their home country But maybe it's a quite different automobile in the UK? Welcome to the forum !

Loving your work, tuned 740's are awesome! The car looks spot on and it's got the power to back it up.

Thanks for the comments. Just a quick update on the car. At the moment, its off the road, waiting for a few upgrades. First one is a larger turbo. This is a Holset HE351CW. Its a little bit of an upgrade over the t4/t3 hybrid the car is running at the moment. Second is a tuned head - Exhaust valves have been upgrade from 38mm to 44mm, valve seats have been opened slightly, intake and exhausts have been ported out. Should make quite a different under 2 bar of boost.
