After binning the MX5, I've just got my hands on this! Some progress pics from yesterday. Head off, sent for re-building, skimming etc: Head etc back on: Cam-cover painted and back on: Still a few bits to do before she'll run, but broke the back of the biggest work. Some other quick pics... Front: Interior: Brakes:

That's a great looking example. I used to have a black 4-door 8V GTE back in the day ... got stolen, but it was fun ... -Steve

J reg should be Mistral Grey, Steel grey went up to about F reg IIRC.
Ive had a string of Mk2 Astra's including 2 16v's. Truly fabulous motors, the engine is really what its all about. Breaking one of my 16v's now if you are looking for any bits mate.

Sorry for the late reply guys, been busy at work!! No major plans for it, she's apparently running ~180bhp (184ish if the previous owner is right) so I'm really just planning to focus on the little things. I'd like to flock the dash, I've seen a nice dished steering wheel I like the look of, and I'm hunting a set of nice wheels for her, as she's running Cavalier GSI wheels at the moment. I'm thinking along the lines of BBS RS's, or the Rial split rims on the Opel GT in this months Retro-Rides if anyone's seen them? Anyway, some more recent pics: Can't imagine ever getting bored of looking at this, even if I was slightly disappointed at hitting 88mph and not disappearing into 1950s America: Some more quick shots on the way home today... I added this sticker, good for another 60bhp easily I reckon: Also bought some red spray paint for the tow hook, but it hasn't stopped sodding raining yet! And just some other random pics:

Got nicked by some yobs who got their hands on a red one that had been in a wreck and swapped the plates then sold it on. Anyway, the old bill caught them when the poor geezer they sold it to took it into the same garage that had had the red one in. -Steve
