Hi there, you may remember my car if you went the RRG last year. Mine was the grey volvo which stalled on the corners and stank of fuel on the haynes test track ;D That turned out to be a flooding carb leaking all over the hot exhaust manifold. This was the car when I bought it a year ago: The 1.7 engines a great but let down by those horrible carbs. I got tired of it in the end and upon hearing how great Williams engines are in them I began my journey to create a true sleeper. Now before I go further, I'm not a trampdrifter. There's something about tearing apart old cars in the name of drifting it for 3 months then dumping it on the bay that doesn't really appeal to me. Anyway, if you want to see all the conversion pictures, they are here: www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8282&start=30A view under the bonnet: And the car as it currently stands: (ignore dents, they're now gone. Typically I don't have a recent photo!) It'll dyno at 148bhp. But my god it drives so smooth, not cam heavy or anything. Feather the throttle and it's a perfect daily, boot it and you've got a boy racer with raised eyebrows behind you Currently it's done 134000 miles and I use it for my part time job (pizza delivery, they pay for my fuel so why not? ;D) 0-60 in 7 seconds, not hit the top speed yet but I've been told its just beyond 140mph (another friend has one of these). Current plans are: A stainless exhaust system, currently forcing all that power through the standard exhaust. Hella Grille with spots built in Fogs mounted below front bumper Colour coded bumpers Louvre if I can find one (ultra rare for saloons) Nice steering wheel

Do the williams have the inlet that way round? Seen few of these conversions and the air filter seems to be at back of bay. Renault 19 inlet.
nice work, love it

Ding ding, you're right! Yeah it was "flipped" but all that's been done is chop it off one end, weld that up and then chop the other end and weld everything there. It's all been sanded and polished which is why it looks normal I want to run road rallies in it but the green book specifically states that there must be no manifold modifications. I'm hoping to enter and not have a problem because it doesn't look modded. You'd have to really know F7P/Rs to know the manifold is that way around.

Simple answer: yes. Same block so the engine mounts are the same, you'll need volvo 340 1.7 parts but that's no bother if you put it in a 1.7 to begin with. No drivetrain mods needed, it basically "bolts on". You'll need to put in a custom loom of course but half the stuff literally clicks together. Also there's craploads of clearance as you can see. Some bits will need to be custom made - the air filter pipe, manifold, exhaust downpipe, exhaust mating. Also there's some stuff that exists in clios that you can do away with. Some of the vacuum pipes are just blanked off for example.
If anyone is interested, get over on v3m and there's a bucket load of information there.

Yes lol. Drivetrain is different, as is everything under the bonnet. 340s have renault engines 1.4 or 1.7 and were built in Holland on contract by DAF whereas 360s have volvo engines and were built in Sweden. Gearboxes are the same on the inside but you'd have a right session trying to get a 340 prop to fit a 360 box. Basically, it's more hastle than it's worth.
360s are very very good for Volvo engine swaps though, such as a 2.3 turbo. However, I'm not too familiar with 360s as I am with 340s. Also 360s have larger rear brakes which means they are slightly better at stopping. I could go on about the minor differences. The main thing to remember is 340 = DAF(Renault f-type engines only) 360 = Volvo.

when i get fed up of blowing gearboxes on the clio i think i'll seriously consider this swap. looks like could do it in no more than twice the time of changing a clio box.

With expert help, mine took 4 days. And that was with everything ready prepared. Remember it's got to be a mk1 clio engine, f7p or f7r pre 1998. The newer f7r has a oil pump chain which doesn't clear the 1.7 sump you need to use.

The main thing to remember is 340 = DAF(Renault f-type engines only) 360 = Volvo. not quite mate, all 300's were build in Born. the first models (343/345) were most related to DAF but after that it did actually become a real volvo.. (volvo made a whole lot of mods to make it accomodate the other ranges it had at that time) 1.4 is based on the C-engines of renault 1.7 is based on the F-engines of renault and all 2.0 are engines of the volvo redblocks, differences between 340 and 360's are indeed huge, bigger rear brakes is just the tip of the iceberg ;D nice backbox upgrade mate

wow, that is a sleeper. We used to have lots of them around, but most grannies and old doctors who drove them are not on this planet anymore....i guess you can scare the hell out of the typical 340 drivers
