Thought I'd get some pics up of my Jetta. Its a 1.6 Auto ( : TX Bought it a couple of weeks ago after seeing an ad in a local shop window. I've been fancying a Dub for a while, used to have a mk1 Golf then a Jetta GT before I got into old Ford moneypits! It was up for £150, MOT had just run out & it had a months Tax left Went to see it & it was so good I couldn't say no. It belonged to an old boy who had looked after it for the last 9 years, fitted a power steering rack, replaced anything that needed replacing.... but only washed it once a year He was so confident it would pass the MOT I got him to do it before I bought it, so £200 with 12months MOT & a months Tax... ;D Got it home & pressure washed all the Dirt off Very pink & the 2 inch layer off mud all over the lower panels off the car don't seem to have done that much harm. I've started on it with some colour restorer but it still needs a bit more elbow grease. Was bored after polishing it so I treated some rust on the arch lip behind the plastic & tried the a Ronal Turbo on. Needs lowering Also gonna need spigot rings & tapered bolts. Going to pick up some coilovers tonight. I'm trying to do it on a budget & so far it's come in under £500 inc the wheels & shocks. Bit of an its an Auto but I'm getting used to it & its a nice cruiser

Bargain price for a late Jetta with a full 12 months. Looks great with those rims as well, always had a soft spot for Ronal Turbo's......Look forward to seeing it with the coilovers on.

Thanks man Heres an inspiration pic: To be honest thats about all I have planned for it apart from a chrome tailpipe & a decent stereo. I have two other cars. The Anglia in my Sig & a mk3 Cortina in the garage, the Anglia has to go , the Jetta will be my daily & I will hopefully have spare time & funds to get stuck into the Cortina. *Edit :- I don't plan to have a baby seat like the car in the pic and I fall asleep at night thinking about the woosh of a 1.8T or the whine of a G60 supercharger conversion!!!!

;D Less is more, nice to see something that's mildly modded than modded to within an inch of it's life.

Always wanted a Jetta, I don't know why but I prefer Saloons to hatchbacks, saying that I have never owned a saloon, I don't think the dogs would like it. You have done a great job with the paint, get some Autoglym Super Resin Polish on and then a couple of coats of wax. That sould help stop the Paint going back to Tornado Pink!

Thanks. It looks like really pink in the pics, it's really more of a dark red. It just comes out pink on my crappy phone camera.

Its a standard VW feature!
I like it though mate, I would go with a 2 litre ABF 16 Valve on Carbs, and get an extra pedal fitted! 1.8T and G60's start to get expensive!

So on Saturday I went & picked up some coilovers, got back & headed straight over to my mates garage to fit them. We had the old shocks off & the coilies on in about about half an hour.... I love air wrench's! Then when we let it down off the ramp both top mounts pushed up out of the rubber so it was back up on the ramps, front struts off & swap top mounts over from the standard shocks we'd just taken off Crappy phone pic, the memory card on my proper camera has gone tits up Need to bring the front down a bit. Managed to catch the thread when using an air chisel to undo the slotted nut so had to spend a while recutting that... got it all back on & there's now a knocking & a small bit of movement in the top mount on that side. Is there anyway we might have put the springs back on wrong as the other side is fine?

I am pretty sure, that the best top mounts are to get are genuine ones, I think you can go straight to mk3 golf ones, I know they arent overly expensive. I think £12 for the mount and £5 for the bearing each side. Looks the part for a cheap motor, how's the slush box?

Always advisable to change the top mounts fella, a mate of mine has had many a MK2 Golf and fitted coil overs to them....Always changed the top mounts at the same time, nice stance you've got going on there. ;D

Yeah the top mounts that came with the coilovers were slightly perished but we used 'em anyway... Doh! They popped through. We then fitted the ones off my old dampers which were nearly new anyway. I just can't work out where the play is? It's only on the drivers side, which happens to be the side we removed all the springs from, didn't seem to be a 'wrong' way of fitting them though.

Do you know what exactly is knocking? I had a Polo Coupe which had a knocking on the rear suspension when I brought it, it had been dropped about 60mm. Took the wheel off & the springs had been chopped down & the one in question was seated correctly. Probably best to get it up in the air, get the wheel off and have a better look, it might be something obviously loose or not seated correctly. Good luck fella.

Its a few mm play between the rubber top mount below the strut top hole & the metal top plate above. It's all bolted down tight but the tolerences must be out as it allows the mount to have a few mm play either side of the strut top hole in the car. I've spoken to a few people with coilovers & some have said this knocking is not uncommon. I'm just worried cos it's doing it on one side. I'm gonna wind it down at the front this week so I'll have a good poke around. The suspension can't go anywhere but I'll keep an eye out for bus loads of Nuns or small children playing with kittens on the roadside.

Wound it down a bit more & the knocking seems to have stopped. Gonna sort some new top mounts for it though. Also added some wheelnut covers
