Bought a couple of weeks ago, much to wifes initial dismay, then subsequent warming to. Was laid up for about 22 years in the mid 80's. Back on road circa 2008. then off the road. Bought by PO who is a saab 99 turbo boffin and put back on road. Completely original apart from tyres and turbo. first jobs are to sort out windscreen chrome inserts, fit new stereo and speakers, new headlining, new suspension and recore the rad. ongoing work is to sort the minor rust issues and paint chips. Shoukld be taking the car to the Stoneleigh resto shoe in October where I hope to pick up a few bits & bobs.

The 99 Turbo is a pretty thing in black. (Are Turbos always black? I don't think I have seen one in any other colour??) I LOVE the wheels! The interior is very cool too, as is the font on the Turbo badges - very quirky.

the '79/'80 2-doors came in red and black here....3-door only black.
other places got white, metallic green/red. I think some were a sort of pearl shade too..
I can't remember the last time I saw a 3-door 99 of any description on the road, probably 1992...

love it, had a black 2-door for a while, regretted having to sell it ever since. Taught me the true meaning of the phrase "Turbo Lag"!!!!!

I think that used to live two/three doors away from me - before the body was restored by a Saab garage in Hampshire?

My dad's friend bought one of these brand new circa 1979 and i can remember going for a spin in it down the A41.The speed felt amazing at the time to a six year old, especially compared to my dad's Triumph 2500TC!

One of the first jobs done was to swap out the front fog lights. nothng wrong with the bosch rectangular ones, but they blocked out quite a lot of airflow to the fairly small radiator, were black, they are very heavy and I felt they made the front of the car too square? the replacements I had in stock are off a BMW mini - stainless steel and shiney, round and fairly small and light. all easily reversible if needed: Shot of the incas, which have been powdercoated: shot of the interior - worst bit is a split in the outer material on the drivers seat sqwab its still has got its original Blaupunkt stereo fitted, including the fitters sticker from '79 up in Yorkshire. The console is factory fit but saab didn't supply radios, just the wiring to the speakers etc. Noticed that sound only caem from the drivers door...ah yes, thats because the passenger door speaker is missing. pick up a pair of these coxials for £25 got amodern blaupunkt unit to go in but unsure if i'll keep the centr console or remove it. its held in by 2 self tapper and does get in the way of the clutch pedal. i like the clean floor look so will look into options for mounting the stereo under the dash like non-turbo models.

Suggestion: rather than change out the radio, you'll find that there is a blanking plug on the back of it. Take that off and you'll see a 5 or 6 pin Din plug - yes, you can plug an MP3 player directly into it, bypassing the crassette and radio.
Google MP3 Blaupunkt DIN and you'll get LOADS more info. There is even a company in Germany that can supply special leads that auto sense when you have plugged the MP3 player in, so you can still use the radio and crassette.
LOVELY car, mate.

I've got a modern Blaupunkt satnav unit in stock so that'll be going in, the car does get used so want ease of use rather than faffing with mp3's. listen to the radio mostly.....

quick update. still haven't got the stereo fitted. looking at ways to fit it under the dash without butchering the plastic. ordered this lot from Parts for Saabs and they arrived on Friday - new genuine 2 stage saab thermostat. afterwmarket ones are rubbish and never behave properly. some new Bougicord ht leads. lloks like the originals are still one there. have some new plugs as well. Kilen 20mm lowering springs (Lesjofers are the OEM supplier to Saab). the back end has a slight droop so time for a suspesnion refresh. pics to follow when I get some time to fit it all.

That's very, very nice. I really need to own a 99 Turbo at some point, or an early 900 Turbo.
