Not strictly retro but someone might be able to answer my question.
A recent stroke has highlighed my deteriating health and the sometimes need for a mobility scooter - which I have already bought. It won't fit into any of my current vehicles (Smart, Fabia. Vitara or Austin Healey) so I'm planning on changing the Vitara for a mid sized van / van derived MPV.
After a long search I've narrowed it down to a Nissan Serena / Vanette / LDV Cub. Not the best van out there but a fraction of what I'd pay for a VW T4 - which was my first choice. It's going to be a DIY workhorse, buggy carrier, single person (sleep on airbed :
camper, etc yet won't be used every day hence not really wanting to spend T4 money.
The intention is to buy as mint as possible and even the best is going to struggle to get near my max budget so hopefully I'll have plenty of choice.
After reading numerous road tests biggest complaint is the engine being underpowered. Not really a problem for me as long as it will run on veg oil ;D but would like to cover all the options and that includes fitting alternative lumps.
Anyone know if the Nissan TD27 2.7 turbo engine will bolt straight to a gearbox that a 2.3 (CD23 ?) was perviously fitted ?

BTW I'll post about my mobility buggy projects later. Besides the decent, 100% standard model, I've also got a fat tyred golf buggy with roof capable of off road use and this week am collecting a rear engined ride on mower also to be adapted. The law on invalid carriage is very simple and as long as the user is disabled then you have a free range what you ride. It can be electric or petrol, weigh under 150 kg, lights, horn, hazards, mirror and under 0.85m wide
Registering with DVLA is free as is road tax, no inspection needed nor insurance (mine are covered for public liablity / 3rd party as an extention of house policy)
