Rob I tried to open that link and get into the forum but looks like you need to register and I don't know if I should. I might see loads of other almost unique cars getting destroyed but thanks for the link grifterkid you seem to love the same old cars as me and your reaction makes you a top guy imo. iirc you had a similar reaction when Volksangyl's Princess got (almost) totalled jetfire I like it. I know cars aren't alive but, if they were, the Royale being taken to the gallows by the 75 would be unacceptable. It would get its ear bent - all the way to Dumfries D`an`aidh (how do you get that thing on top of the a lol?) new thread started tonight retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=readersrides&thread=137536&page=1#1659872 . Not on the Imp but there is a little view of it stealthstylz Royale would be a strange choice for a wedding car - especially a black one! but everyone who was in the back of mine loved the interior so might be ideal for the nervous bride or groom on their way to the church. I had two girls in the back once and we went thru the McDonalds drive thru in it. They thought they were royalty or something. Loved it MK2VR6 I never knew, or considered, Ireland as different to UK for classic cars. Having said that there seems to be a lot of classic hearses over there and the Royale is kinda baroque so maybe that's the flavour over there.

Hi guys. I didn't notice these latest posts and only came in to add on a link to a Royale which is on Ebay and less than 10 miles away from me. Plus. I was going to add that last Friday night (whilst on a bit of a drinking session with guys from work now that I don't have a car to hinder me) I got a surprise text from the guy who bought the car asking if I still had the manuals and assuring me it wasn't going to get scrapped It's a bit late to add that now tho as it's already been said above Anyway the one on Ebay is interesting as it apparently has a great body and the amazing red interior but needs a gearbox. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120996348941?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649I'm kinda glad it didn't come up a month ago or I would've been buying it and swapping the interiors round and trying to keep both on the road somehow So pieman1uk If I can get the manuals to you somehow just let me know and I also have a NOS chrome mid section for the back bumper that I forgot to stick in the boot. Feel free to add the progress onto this thread also. Cheers. Graham

It's great to know that this wonderful car has landed in a new pair of caring hands... ;D That silver Royale looks treble tasty (especially with that stunning 'tarts boudoir' interior), I do hope it ends up with someone on here...

Hi folks. Sorry to disappoint if anyone was hoping for good news on the old black Royale as that has been scrapped but I'm posting here because the guy who bought it has a gold one he wants to sell along with a lot of the parts from the black one.
I'm not interested as I'm still a bit gutted about losing the black one but if there are any brave/foolish souls out there who want to rescue a gold 2.8 saloon with the tan interior this is your chance

Ffs. Just read this. After all the effort and graft you did on the Royale. Gutted as I can well appreciate the effort you put into it. Happened with a Ds21 my father spent a fortune on. All he did was prep and restore for the next person.

Wondered what the score was with it - I assume the photos are old, then? To be fair, the gold one looks really solid, especially for an old VX. Last time it didn't make reserve and ended at £265ish. Here it is: linkAnd here's your old one in front :/ Let's hope someone saves the gold one...

Sad to see that the black one has gone - having owned one before i can vouch for how badly they rot. It was an ex practical classics fleet car for a bit as well - the black one i mean.
Sadly they don't have the following of their contemporaries - SD1 / mk 2 granadas are more sought after which is a shame - the royale is a cracking car as long as you can weld and have shares in the oil industry.

Yip. I got £150 for mine and a Granada in the condition of the gold one would prob fetch £2650 but you can't give away the Royales it seems.

Would've been great to see the two of them on your driveway polished and roadworthy.
Sorry Grifterkid. I actually feel guilty about letting the black one go and bitter after all hours I put in on it. It's annoying now when I see that you can get a back box for them again and I couldn't find one for love nor money and at the time.

Did you sell it to somebody who knew what they were taking on or did it go straight to the yard?

hi hows it goin I'm the guy whos got the gold royale, i know there is a few here who were gutted to hear the black royale was scrapped but on further work i started by pulling the antiroll bar of then the front subframe to repair where the antiroll bolted to the chassis and i found the rot to be extreme in the chassis rails that holds the subframe and i decided then it was to much work but in my haste i bought the gold car which is solid in that area and it does need a wee bit work but there is loads of spares to go with it which i stripped from the black royale and other spares that were donated to me thru someone having a garage clearout yous can contact me if interested in the gold royale thanks.

That chassis rail was pretty bad pieman. I think that was the point I said enough's enough. It could have been fixed by someone who had the time but I had to bow out. Will need to check the article out jules1200. Maybe their profile will be raised by it. I don't see myself ever owning another Royale but if a 3.0 saloon came up I'd change my mind. I think the ultimate would be a 3.0 saloon in black with a red interior pinched out another one

My car was a very early one on a T plate.
Even at ten years old it was starting to go everywhere - strut tops, sills, rear valance was full of filler.
Eventually it was put out of its misery by a ford transit.
If the rust does'nt become a problem the solex carb will eventually.
