owned by a guy round the corner from me its a 1.2 TDi Lupo 3L, import from Germany. Lightweight aerodynamic, triptronic box.. avg 90 mpg he also has a cool bus running a bora tdi lump! Don't suppose you happen to know if these are import only do you? I could be seriously tempted when I come to make my next purchase. MPG'zzz own BHP'zzz.

According to google Dover to Aachen is 241 miles, that's less than a half a tank on one of those... I'm actually amazed.

Lupo's are quirky looking cars. but beyond the round headlights they are a bit bland (with the exception of the GTI and 3L) Much more a MK1 Arosa fan myself. Just sold my MK1 Arosa 16v Sport. Their desirability vastly outweigh the savings gained. A 2005 model with 175,000km is on eBay.de for Euro7000, and a 3L with engine trouble is already bid up over Euro1500 with 2 days to go.

These look quite cool. A properly small car made by VW! I would definitely buy one. It's a shame that they were never available in Australia. After the aircooled stuff finished there were almost no VWs sold here for decades. We missed out on the Caddy and there were no Polos here until the late 90s I believe. VW were just a niche importer selling a handful of models at very expensive prices. For example, in 1987, only 48 Volkswagens were sold across the country, all of them Transporters! Total Australian sales of VW was less than 1200 vehicles per year from 1980 to 1993. Explains why the watercooled VW 'scene' in Australia is so microscopic! By comparison, VW Australia sold over 30,000 Beetles in 1964. Numbers sourced from Club VeeDub in case anyone is interested, they have quite a good history written up. www.clubvw.org.au/history/history.html

I love Lupos as well , so much so that I bought a low mileage Fresco green SE model (the best colour for them IMO and only made for 1 year I believe ? ) three years ago . It's still shockingly standard even though I've got a set of Eclat wheels sat in the shed itching to be fitted to it ! Great cars though , very well screwed together compared with some of the competition , they don't rust like a Ford Ka ( no offence to Ka owners please ) , oh and there's plenty of headroom in them so even if you are 6' 7" you'd still fit no problem , my workmate is 6' tall and 18 stone and he fitted in mine with loads of room to spare ;D I seem to recall Auto Express magazine running a pic of the prototype lupo years back with the headline 'Volkswagens new Mini ' or similar , before BMW brought out the actual new Mini ...
