While digging around finding certain pics for the Pace Car Thread I stumbled across this picture:
It stopped me in my tracks! I'd never seen it before, yet what a cool car. Like sub-zero cool.
I left the tab open while I searched for more Pace Car shots, intending to come back to it later. As I finished the Pace Car thread, I started closing tabs down and before I realised it, I'd closed the tab to this car!
I needed to know more, so I started searching again, searching for pace cars in the hope I'd come back across the image. Well, about 2hrs of different Pace Car searches later, I finally come back across the image hidden in the depths of a really cool thread (that is worthy of a thread in its own right on here), but the info given isn't exactly great. "Graham Hill had an Ogle" is all it says.
Original thread here
After a bit of searching I get a lead based on Reliant and Ogle...so off I go, not much to see other than lots of Scimitars and then this:
"Ogle Reliant Scimitar"
But not a lot else.
I keep searching then come across a comment about Aston Martin. I search Ogle and Aston Martin....BINGO!!
"The unusual Ogle Aston Martin was first shown at the Montreal Motor Show in January 1972. The idea behind it came from David Ogle in the 1960's but it wasn't until after his death that the project really evolved to a finished car. With the cost of the car being met by the tobacco company, W.O.Wills, the car was designed and built during 1971 under the guidance of Tom Karen. The car was known as 'The Sotheby Special' and finished in dark blue with gold pinstripes in order to promote the cigarette brand that Wills had just introduced. As the brand failed, the car was repainted in the 'Embassy' colours of white with a logo of red triangles."
This, obviously led to more pictures...
All I can say is....what a stunning car. So 70's, so beautiful. Automotive sculpture at its best.
I'd never come across it before and so I'm really glad I spent the 2hrs searching to find that picture again, then searching more to find out what the car actually is.
Tomorrow, when I am less tired and less drunk I will search again for more info and details, but I just wanted to share this right now before I lose it again. Tomorrow....a new search for lots of info on this cool car.
