: Here goes, been building my project since l managed to convince my wife to get one , 1969 Herald 13/60 convertible that was 3 years ago!! Wanted to do something different to it but to get my wife on board l had to make it automatic!! no problem l don't mind auto's. So they never made auto not even vitesse, stag yes, dolomite yes, but not different enough. So went down the trusty ford route so ford auto gearbox with ohv engine got auto box and 1.3 found same power as herald engine so looked for 1.6.....how expensive have they got!!! even decent pinto are going for good money. What next, then saw that people were putting zetec into early escorts and stuff so had to get one, 50 quid later l has a rust bucket 1993 1.6 escort with full service history!.... l kid you not. Engine was a peach...wife said what the f... is that! l said its an anti theft deterrent! nobodies going to steal from a house that's got that standing on the drive! Got ta go should be working post picture of the build so far when l get back from Germany!

Bit of time to add more info.
Done chassis with fabicated rear end to take sierra diff and swing arms, coilover on the back.
Front suspension rose joint at the bottom to do away with trunions.
Loads of welding to the herald body, what looks ok at first is just filler and underseal so has took me a long time to weld up the body used 1 1/2 6x3 sheets of steel on a herald!!!
Next is engine and gearbox mounts fun fun fun!!!!!!!!!

Interesting what you've done with the diff. I'd thought Sierras but scrapped the idea. Ditto BMW...

Yer to the fact that the sieera track is 200mm+ wider than the Herald l had to ditch the sierra rear subframe. So to mount the diff l used the original sierra rear mount and cut off the forwards mounts from the sierra subframe and welded the original herald forward diff mounts to it job done! The sierra swing arms had to be shortened as they would have met in the middle so l had to make a jig to keep the mounts in place and shorten the distance between by 100mm. I then used parts from the subframe and fabricated brackets to mount the swing arms lots of measurements, but l've made it so l can adjust for a 4 wheel alingment set up. Finaly the VX220 coilovers were mounted to the chassis and fabricated bracket to the sierra swing arms. If anyone wants more pic's let me know. Cheers

Thought l'd add some picture of the welding up job! Some before and after shots are always good! i1141.photobucket.com/albums/ni1141.photobucket.com/albums/n589Yep this was the floor of the bulkhead and yes some one out their used a welder to make a sheet of steel!! proper 22carrot cowboy! After cutting all the rot out l was left with this!! dooh i1141.photobucket.com/albumGot new floors, fabricated everything else! i1141.photobucket.com/alLooks much better and stronger! Next was the rear buck wich also masked several bodges, on one side the lower B pillsr had had 2 rear panels placed on one over the other it wasn't restoration more like archeology!! So after removing all the rot l ended up with this! i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n589If you know your herald then theres not a lot left! but half way through it looked like this...... i1141.photobucket.com/albThe final result looks like this, fabricated all the panels myself as l whanted to used heavier gauge steel than the repair panels you can but which are quite thin sometimes. So far l've used 1 1/2 3'x6' sheets of steel!!! i1141.photobucket.comThat will do for now got a lot of stuff to add as this was done last year!!

Some more stuff, this time brakes and steering. Wanted to use the escort master cylinder and servo as herald doesn't have one so fabricated brackets to mount the assembly backwards with see-saw lever from the brake pedal, this is the result. The large rectanged box is for the escort fuse box and the big hole above for the wiring loom. You'll also notice turret from the bulkhead not original herald this is for the escort steering column so l don't have a steel shaft from the rack right upto my face! so l have colapsing steering column. A beam across the dash in the next picture to mount the steering column job done i1141.photobucket.coWill post more stuff soon as l've got to get you lot up to date!!
